Jotul F 55 Carrabassett versus F500 Oslo

I thought I had settled on the Oslo, but have recently become interested in the Carrabassett.

I could find very little info on it, only the you tube video by Jotul, the limited images on the website.
Very few threads on hearth. No floor model at the dealer.

It looks like a simple solid, one door/one gasket, no ash pan, steel box. Simple is best after my current frustrations.

It will be installed in front of the fireplace, with the rear few inches actually inside the fireplace. I noticed a video of the smaller F45 Greenville that looked like convection outlets at the top rear.

Does anyone know if the Carrabassett is the same? Because this would convect straight into the block off plate and I'd be better off staying with the Oslo.

Any other thoughts on this stove would be appreciated.

Just finished install of the f45 Greenville. You can install a blower at the bottom rear of the stove and that air
exits through those rear vents. Not sure if the f55 will take a blower? I did the 3 break in fire's and a fourth
fire bringing the temp up to 600deg. I can tell you , most of the heat was coming from the top and front of
the stove and the sides throwing some good heat also. Just upgraded from a F3 CB (that is for sale) to
get some longer burns.

I don't see a big issue here, especially if you can install the block off plate lower, at the lintel level. The majority of the heat will radiate from the front and with a lower blockoff, it will convect out of the fireplace. Add a blower and this won't be a problem.
 
You said you are planning to position the new stove in front of your fireplace with the rear section of the stove inside the fireplace opening. It looks like the F55 is a bit deeper than the Oslo, so you probably should check out just where both stoves will sit in relation to both the front legs on the hearth extension and the T connector in relation to your chimney opening inside the fireplace. I have our Jotul F600 sitting on our hearth extension with the rear legs just inside the fireplace opening and my T connector horizontal section is only 5". I don't think I could fit the F55 on my hearth, which is 17" out from the front of the fireplace.

good point, it is deeper. time to measure.

The Carrabasset also convects with rear outlets. It does state about an available blower for the Carrabasset in the catalog
 
Have you had an insert with a blower or a stove with a blower before? One of the things I enjoy the most after replacing my insert with my freestanding Jotul F600 stove is the beautiful tranquility and silence of the stove without a fan running. This can be a big quality of life issue for many folks.

I would rather not have a blower for the same reason.
