Wood ID Please

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently moved into a house in February with a wood stove. I burned a bit last year using BioBricks and a bit of wood that i was able to get around my property.

Can anyone please help me identify this 2 different piece of log I cut down? Thank you.

The first 2 pics are from the same log and then the other 2 are from a same log.

I am in Southern New Hampshire.

I was thinking you might have a log of hickory, ash, and never would've caught the cherry. But that were the real pyros come in. Welcome to the site.

I'll go with some type of Cherry on the first pics, but I'm not sure about the other stuff. Yeah, it's got the "Ash pinhole".... Maybe some other type than the White Ash we've got here? White usually has heartwood that is a little darker, and the bark is a little different, like the pics on post #25 in this thread:

Cherry is a good mid-range firewood. Kinda like maple or birch . I'd rather have oak or Black locust for the month of January . But hay ! get and burn what you can ;)

Exactly! Cherry will get you through most of the winter but give me well-seasoned oak or locust for the coldest parts of winter.
 
Mix the cherry with a couple pieces of locust for a nice long sweet smelling fire.

Cherry is pretty close to soft Maple, but hard (Sugar) Maple and some of the Birches are on par with Red Oak. I think this River Birch I've got is pretty good, but I haven't burned a full load yet. I know it's dry and it is still pretty heavy. I don't have much, though, just a few loads worth.
