Have two dead elms on our property. I've been working on the smaller of the two. I will have the larger taken down by a tree service.

The smaller one has three leaders and I've got 2 of them down so far.

Before:

1 down

2 down

Have to wait to unload the branches at the tree dump to take the rest down

Looks like ya got the hardest one's out of the way ? that were leaning towards the fence . I say go for it and finish her up ! ;)

Looks like you are coming along okay but I sure don't like cutting from ladders.

I won't ever cut from a ladder. This year the legs were too shot to climb. Had somebody else do it for the first time. There are just too many horror stories from cutting on a ladder. Started to one time. Got up there and said "This is nuts." and came back down and climbed it.

I'm not to crazy about it either, but thought this tree was fairly manageable size and shape.

I only had to make one cut from the ladder and it was to top the second leader about 5' above the crotch. The first leader I was able to stand and cut it.

I would definitely get the other taken down. That one is three times the smaller one.
Just be careful don't trust that fence.

Yeah the big one is not for me - I think Scotty said he'd stop over and take care of.
