progress on a wood stack

Added some more to a wood pile out the back. Before and after shot...! going with larger splits for this pile...and will uncover as soon as there is a break in the rain...still want to add a bit more to this pile to even it up...

so how much wood would you estimate in this pile? its two rows deep, 7 pallets long, you can see it tapers down at the left but roughly 3.5 feet high?

ps, yes i use stakes because none of the wood in this pile is straight!!

aussiedog, I have tried that method before and agree, it looks brilliant, but the majority of that wood is gnarly and twisted and very difficult to stack that way....i dont want to risk having the pile fall down so for peace of mind I just hammered some stakes in...too easy...haha....

now to work on my 2015 pile!

its just plastic from the hardware. came in a big roll that i rolled out over the top of the pile and cut down the middle with a knife (so each row is individually covered) so there is no pooling of water in low spots after rain. it was really cheap, and is surprisingly strong. the remainder of the roll is actually tucked in under plastic on the left hand end. If i want to extend this pile all i have to do is roll out more plastic...

i cut my splits around 40-50 cm......but i scrounge a lot of pre cut wood ....well, I think im going to stop doing that because the lengths are always crap...haha

I will have to go look at the plastic up close to find out exactly what it is....it was from mitre 10 in emerald. it was a roll about 50 cm wide, and 12 cm in diameter but it unfolds a lot wider...it was packaged in a plastic sleeve and from memory had a lot of blue on the label.. ..its actually not that thick, but it has an almost elastic property...you can really stretch it over the pile and rather than tearing it stretches...

it looked very similar to this aussie....but was in plastic packaging..from memory was dirt cheap too...like 15 bucks..

even my wife is starting to see why its so important to spend time splitting and stacking...

you are spot on, I have secured the plastic by placing a few bits of wood on top...I actually chose that spot for the stack because 1) it gets sun throughout the day, but more importantly, it gets the winds up that valley
