There is just something special about being ready to meet winter head on. One of the best parts is knowing that we won't have to be calling the oil or gas man during the winter and then having to pay for that stuff.

Yep, you feel self sufficient. At least in the heat department. My winter here is not like yours, but looking forward to some cold weather.

also ready for a Manitoba winter here...will upload pics shortly but got close to 12 cords c/s/s in the back yard, some of which is oak that won't be ready til next year, but the rest is bone dry and ready to hit the stove
Oh portage and main! Horrible place where your flesh freezes before you can say flesh ! I used to have bus stops near there.

Greetings from Prince Edward Island, Tahoostas. I used to work for AECL in Ottawa and spent a week in Pinawa back in 1988, stayed at Kelsey House, I think. Worked with a guy by the name of Dave Booth who kept bees as a hobby. Yup, it was cold that February....
Small world breamer999! I have worked at AECL for 6yrs now in dosimetry. Yes it's still open! Although not nearly as many employees as back in the hay day. Decommissioning for the next few decades. Kelsey house is now the Wilderness Edge, owned privately and used as a retreat center. Ill be jealous of you in feb!
I have fond memories of Chalk River, Port Hawksbury, no so much Sheridan Park (It is Toronto after all)!!
I imagine you burn alot of softwood there?
I burn mostly 70% White spruce and 30% birch. Softwood is underrated, a few more trips to the stove but I live on four acres in a seasonal cottage development, I am a full timer. But the American seasonals all want trees cut and I do it free and take the wood. They are all mostly from the New England States, nice people, much like Maritimers.. Plus the bring me swag from the U.S, like Bush's beans, El-Cheapo White Owl cigars and some Fels-Naptha bar soap, for my homemade laundry detergent.
