Happy (almost) Fall! Hope you all had a good summer. I've been out of work after doctors found a 3cm growth on my spinal chord causing numbness and a loss of function in my legs from time to time. Hopefully we can come up with a plan to get rid of the thing! Because of that DW and I have had to really tighten our belts which meant no early buys on pellets. I went down today to Home and Hearth in Hampton Falls, NH and they are carrying two brands I know and one I have never heard of.
Currans, $269/ton
Vemont Wood Pellets $269/ton
Maximum $289/ton

Maximums are made in Quebec by Granules LG. I liked the LG's when I burned them a few years ago.

The thing about Home and Hearth is they will deliver them for $20 and put them in my shed which, considering my condition, is a huge bonus.

What do y'all think? I'm leaning towards the Vermonts.

only one of those 3 ive heard about personally are the Currans which got good reviews from my customers. the LG brand did well also. dont want to "dump" on the vermonts or the "maximums" but i just havent heard anything much about them, they may be great maybe grab a bag or two of the ones you arent sure of to try (and give em a fair test , clean out the stove first so they arent being judged on a stove which is a bit ashed up)

i always tell my customers "try before you buy" unless its a brand ive gotten solid reviews from.
fair is fair but "dont know , means dont know"

closing, sorry to hear about your back, we'll "put you on the list" here, and i know the "hearth.com gang" will be thinking of you. i wish you "much luck" in beating this thing you have going on in your back. "toasting a speedy recovery" my friend

The only Curran's that are any good are the softwood version...otherwise, stay away. LG's are good, as are the Vermonts.

Considering the price is the same, I'd be all over the Vermont's.

Thanks guys. I surfed around and couldn't find a bad review on the Vermonts and the price is right. I am going to pick up a couple bags of the Extremes and I'll let you know how they burn. Hell, I'll do a couple of bags of Curran's too while I'm at it. I have $300 to spend so I may as well spend it all :) ...Mike, thanks for the well wishes. They originally thought I had a stroke, with all the numbness and all...and we wasted three months going down that road. Finally I was sent to Lahey Clinic and the neurologist there found it in 10 minutes. After an 70 minute MRI they had a picture of it..Pretty amazing to see it...So now, this Friday I go back and talk about the next step. I hope we can do something, I'm getting tired of acting like an old man!
Jay, nice to see you and Macman! It's been too long :)

Thanks Jay! Me too!

Thanks :) The dog in my avatar is my boy Luke. He looks old but is only 6. I have two goldens, Luke and Lily who is also 6. They do a lot to keep me grounded and in some sort of shape. They force me to walk them every day...or else! Here's a picture of them with one of their littermates Luke and Lily on the left.

Hope you're feeling better. I went to Home and Hearth today and was quoted $279/ton on the Vermonts. Were they honoring the Spring price with you, or did you just get the price wrong. At any rate I now have a decision to make myself.

Here's the deal, Home and Hearth charges $85 for delivery to Ipswich, MA where I am. So for 3 tons that would total $922. At Dodge's Agway virtually next door I can get Cubex for $299 with only $45 for delivery, a total of $945. What opinions do people have as to which to buy. My understanding is that Cubex had a bit of a rough year last year, but hopefully that was cleared up. I bought a couple bags to try out.

Also, Home and Hearth suggested I find someone in Rowley or Ipswich, to split the truck costs. They deliver up to 10 tons at the same price. If anyone is interested they could PM me. Thanks!

I like the Vermonts better...but to fair I haven't burned Cubex in years

You're right, my bad. I'm looking at the sheet and it is $279. Does it still count if I was within $10? :) I will say that Cubex is one of my favorite pellets but $299 was a bit rich for me especially when the delivery is factored in. They only charge the $20 for in town delivery.. Agway, I believe, was $45.

I always like that picture. Luke, sitting between two pretty girls, looks like any guy would. Goofy :)

I love the Vermont's. Price would dictate getting them.

BTW,
Here is my Old Girl Marley (older than the Book or the Movie)
She keeps me grounded and sane.
