Well I purchased a Ramsplitter (https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/took-the-plunge-elec-ramsplitter-on-the-way.112209/) and finnaly got some time to use it.
I used it on some large cherry I found that has been the most difficult wood to split for me to date....stringy as all heck. Hate it. Anyway, splitting it by hand forget it (well my hands anyway) and using my old Harbor Freight 7-ton would not of got the job done IMO. But I posted the very first video of my using it (horizontal) after filling her up as well as as some vertical splitting with a very large split (longer than 18in and I split it right down the middle to test the splitter. I normally take splits off the sides and work the round a bit)
Anyway, so far so good, feel stout. It makes less creaking noises now during the splitting process, perhaps it is getting broken in. And the electric motor has a low hum to it you can talk over. In my video I said you don't need hearing protection, but to be honest I always wear it as I don't want to do any further hearing damage (car stereos as a kid). I'm sure the neighbors appreciate it though with slightly less noise and no fumes!
