Thought I'd start a thread and see who's sitting by the fire. I had my first fire indoors night before last and had another last night. I'm starting tonight's right after I post this. Looks like it's on, dang it feels good!

We've had only one small fire so far the night it got below freezing. I doubt we'll have another one for perhaps a couple weeks unless the weather turns sharply colder. I see some 30's heading our way but unless it is really cool all day and then into the low 30's, we usually don't require a fire. We'll have plenty of burning coming up soon.

I almost did Monday night. Brought up a bag of MWP pellets. Set it on the hearth of the fireplace (I have an insert). Plugged in the stove. That's as far as it got. It was 67 degrees in the living room and I just could not bring myself to do it. Unplugged the stove and went to bed.

As far as the wood insert in the basement, that thing cooks, I would have roasted myself out if I started that one. Besides I have no wood in the house yet.

We are burning, have the Jotul 118 Black bear burning day and night now, over the past week.

We have a fire in the evening to take the chill off, weather forecast is to warm up again this weekend :(.

Not at the moment as it's hotter than the "hobs of hell" outside. However, I have had the fire going last week for a couple nights and I have a few days of wood inside ready to go.

Already had a few fires, the first was back in July because it was a bit cool and I felt like it.
If mom wasn't staying here, we'd probably just put on more sweatshirts, but she likes it warm.
All fires so far have been mostly kindling and small pine and poplar splits.

Had a 1/3 of a load fire Tue and Wed night. Not going to need one for the next 7-10 if the forecast holds.

Man do I want to burn but its just too warm.
The leaves are starting to turn just a little so that means it wont be long 'til the stove is running constantly.

I've had a couple quick, small fires to take the chill out of the air . . . probably could have just bundled up a bit more . . . but I like playing with fire and have not do so for a while.

Not yet...but it won't be too much longer. It's pretty typical that we have a nice "Indian Summer" here through September and even into October. Now over the last three weeks or so I've watched the daytime highs drop from the 80's through most of the 70's, headed for the 60's and below. I'm in no hurry, I'm not a real winter fan-boy. Every time I use the term "Indian Summer" I'm reminded that although we, these days, think of that as a good thing...the people who originally gave it that name saw it as a very very bad thing, indeed. !!! Rick

I think I might have a fire tomorrow since it is going to get colder and rainy as well.

I decided to have a campfire instead tonight.

That's a pretty cool lookin' little burner deal.

ETA: I figure that grill in the background fits when you want to do some cooking, no?

One small one, just to make sure all the adjustments I made this off-season are good. Everything went great. Going to enjoy this season it looks like. First time being ahead and I like the feeling.

Yep... you sure can. We use it for burgers and dogs at times.

Still pretty cold in cabin tonight... it was low 70's earlier but still low 61 inside. I could use the oil heaters but really wanting to do a fire inside tonight as well.

High tomorrow and Sunday is around 55.

Not here yet. Temps up and down like a basketball. Tomorrow is supposed to be all night monsoons.

I used to get the itch and start in late September. I have gotten over it. Enough burning time coming soon.

Sounds like fire weather to me Treach. I'm guessing I'm west of you, since there's not much west of me here. It's raining hard right now, but not too cold. The stove is my only heat source, so I'm burning nightly from here on out most likely.

What a difference the Cascades make! Where are you guys?

Not sure if you were referring to mine but sign is on tonight.

Well, in the moment I was talking about chazcarr's dog...but I like your sign very much indeed. I remember when you got that. Rick
