Dry wood is a joy!!!

This is the place I learned about it too. Did the same thing you did for way too many years.

There's no end to the good, practical stuff I've learned here.

Amen.

I was actually going to post something about dry wood and it's effects today. My sweep came last Saturday and did a bottom up cleaning. Normally he would place his vac hose in the flue along with his rods and his second man would keep the seal as tight as possible. This year I asked him to see what collects so I had an idea what was coming out. He cleaned out his vac and went through the process. He collected about 1.5 gallons worth of powdery ash from my 28' flue. He said that last years burn was a good one for me, he could tell the wood was dry.
So, as others have said, it comes down to the wood supply and, I too, have learned most of that here too.

I thought everyone burned with dry wood until I found this site.

I'm gonna chime in as well. Thanks to this place, I'm starting this season with my wood situation better than it's ever been, and I am now committed to making it even better from here on out. I've only been burning for a few days so far this season, but my stove has never burned better. I thought I had dry wood before, now I know I do. Thanks to all that share their knowledge here, I'm a better burner because of it.

I am just this season getting into my best ever wood. I came to this site in 2009 when we bought the Fireview. It was then that I became a serious wood scrounger. Now, 3 1/2 years later I am getting into some seriously dry wood. I am burning wood that was C/S/S in spring summeer, 2010. Standing dead Black Locust that has been seasoned 3 summers is awesome! Stove is hotter than ever and burn times are longer than ever Reloads are super fast too. This site totally changed my burning habits. In fact, from what I have learned here, I know that it was only luck that kept me from burning down the house with the old smoke dragon and the wood I was stuffing it with.
