After a few months of inactivity, I finally got down to getting the boiler finished. I used 1-1/4 black pipe for all the near boiler piping which was relatively easy. I've had a couple of fires with it and it works as expected (good news). There are still a few things I need to deal with: overheat zone (power failure), proper pipe supports and insulation, and the control wiring to integrate everything nicely with the gas boiler. The piping follows the Tarm Large Square Tank layout.

Sorry for the sideways photos, I've tried everything I can think of fix that.

I'm really quite impressed with the ease of lighting too, I was expecting it to be more work but it's really simple. I know others say it takes a while to get used to them so I'm guessing that I will like it even more once I get a feel for it.

I like my innova for the ease of operating. Light it, forget it. No smoke hood,no dampers to open or shut, etc. Been a nice unit.

Good stuff.

It was more of an adjustment for me just having to make a fire on every day, as opposed to making one on just once in October for the whole winter. Once I got past that, actually making the fire every day wasn't so bad - there are little tricks for every unit I think though, I refined my method a couple times.

Those things sure look nice. My non-wood burning friends would never guess it's a boiler. Nice looking install.

Thanks, I enjoyed working with threaded pipe. I'm glad I didn't do it with copper, the black stuff was so much cheaper. Boiler seems to be working really well, I like the peephole to see the gasification.

Enjoy your Innova, I love mine.

Funny you say that about the threaded pipe. I used both and given the choice I would go copper all the way. To each their own!

Great looking install! I respect anyone who runs much black iron and can make it look good.

Like kopeck, I'm a copper man though.

Interesting how that is! Now I should say that I didn't actually thread any pipe myself, I used standard sizes where possible and had the rest cut and threaded. If I were threading it myself, I suspect I would have quickly decided copper was easier!

For me, it comes down to tools. All I need to sweat copper is a tubing cutter, a torch, something to clean up the pipe and some flux and solder and I can do pretty much anything for a investment of around $50.00.

With black iron you are either talking about hundreds of dollars worth of tools (that you probably won't use much if all again). I rented a threader for a day and it still cost me 50 bucks. If you are lucky and can get away with all precut pipe then it's not bad, as long as you stay away from HD/Lowes fittings. Once I started using WARD fittings my life got much better.

Congrats and good job! Mine is the Tarm Solo 40 with storage, not quite the finesse of the Innova, but in operation since 2007, and I have always been very pleased with performance, ease of lighting, lack of smoke, and efficient operation. Your experience should be as good or better.
