I noticed this part is under warranty for 3 years, is this a pain to change. Looks like I either have to take the top off or remove the burner tubes...Not really happy about it. Just noticed yesterday when I was cleaning it!

I think it would be a lot easier to remove the tubes than to take the top off. I don't think removing the tubes is a major undertaking. An exploded parts diagram is attached below, if that helps. I suggest talking to a dealer or stove repairer for tips, if no one on this site can provide step-by-step instructions.

My guess is that the baffle got damaged by splits that touched it when loading. It is right on top of the tubes and easy to crack if touched (think large saltine cracker). Mine has a few gouges in it, but my stove is only used sporadically during the winter.

So you mean that top plate above air tubes? I was looking on how to pull that top part apart to clean mine but i figured the tops gotta come off. How ya think yours cracked?

So ill make sure to always pull inside pipe apart when cleaning mine! I always did it this way while cleanining my ancient bullard

they are pretty easy to break with the sweep rods
hopefully yours are covered by the dealer

Please explain how I can clean my flue by going up through the Shelburne. Wouldn't you need to remove the secondary tubes and the baffles? I haven't found another way, so have been disconnecting the flue at the back of the stove (by simply removing three screws) and going up that way.

Or are you talking about breaking the baffles by cleaning from the roof down? Thanks...

I'm no expert, but my dealer recommended I unbolt the burn tubes in my future jotul and sweep down into the stove.

I noticed mine were cracked immediately when I took the flue pipe off. Might be from bumping it with a log but they say it's under warranty for 3 years.Gonna plead the 5th and hope they give me a new one...It's only got 1 season on it!

Avoid loading the stove right up to the secondary tubes and this should not be an issue.

yes, i was talking about damage from the top down. you just need to be careful pushing the rods down the last few inches

Not sure where I read it, but you take off the top to replace the baffle on the Shelburne. It is not a cemented joint and should lift right off. YMMV

Old thread but right on target for my question.

If I take my pipe off and sweep my chimney, do I still need to take the baffle out and clean that too? I'm repeatedly reading about people taking their baffles out to clean the pipe, I'm hoping I don't need to do this, seems like a real pita.

I didnt, i just remove the black pipe sweep the chimney then vac the top of the stove.

Yes, when you raise the flue pipe, you can reach inside and vacuum any soot on top of the baffles.

Hi, I just posted a thread a few days ago. I just bought a used shelburne and both baffles were smashed when the previous owners tried to move the stove. I called hearthstone and they confirmed the top needs to come off. Two bolts are visible on the back of the stove on the outside. The two front bolts are inside. I still need to look for them. I ordered parts from woodsmanspartsplus last night and all the parts should be delivered tomorrow! Super fast shipping and I was only charged $7 for shipping. They were hands down the cheapest I found on the Internet. My local dealers did not stock the parts and hearthstone said they had two weeks delay on parts shipping. I'm glad woodsmans had the stuff in stock. I'll take some pictures when I take the top off.

I just got bored so I tool the top off. It was very easy. Use a 7/16 wrench on the back two bolts. Use a ratchet and extension with a 7/16 socket for the front bolts. Look up and there is some sort of metal baffle plate. There are two square holes and onside are the bolts. Took 5 min. One bolt snapped off in the lid :( going to be a pain to get out.

Yes, pictures would be very helpful!

I can take some pics but I just have my phone. I don't have a computer connected to the Internet to upload them. If a member messages me with their email address I can email the pics so they can post them. I just got the new baffles today and I am a little baffled. the lower baffle sits on the tubes( I think) but there is a long metal bracket that I think I know where it goes? I cant figure out how to put the upper baffle in. Can someone take pics of the front of the lower baffle from inside so I can see where that bracket goes? Thanks

After some fiddling I figured it out. They only fit one way and you need to remove 3 more bolts and take the metal baffle out to get the upper ceramic one in.

You can upload pix right to the site from your phone by hitting the upload a file tab.
