You guys are great for recommending this online website http://www.dynamitebuys.com/ .
Pretty sure I'm going to finally pull the trigger & order my new chimney from them.
I have the stove semi installed & have hard dimensions for the exhaust piping. I took my measurements to my local stove shop & they first of all were impressed with my blueprinting skills, haha but they gave me a break down if the items I will need. Total price including tax & 10% discount which made me happy because they didn't give the discount when I spoke with them over the phone 6 weeks ago....$1,101.09 OUCH but okay. All items in stock. It took them 10 ish minutes talk with me & give me the part numbers I needed, nice bunch....

Now Since Im addicted to this site & read every post here & paying attention I took the item numbers & compared them to this web site
http://www.dynamitebuys.com/ it was easy. I just got off the phone with a sales person & it seems like it will be a easy purchase. The online prices are current, free delivery & no tax. The dynamite price shipped to my door is $653.81 ..... Thats a $447.38 savings (500 dollars in my mind)
what do you think??? should I buy online, I plan on doing this before the weekend so I can install this month.

Heres the break down

....................STORE...................ONLINE.............

6dwbtl66.....213.01........................115.85 ...... doublewall telescope pipe
6DWB45...107.01.........................49.99 ...... NEED 2.... 45* elbow
6DWB8A....72.39........................43.99 ... 6" diax8" adj
6TGRS...151.20..........................83.81... roof support with trim
6TGG36....176.31........................97.46 ... NEED 2... 36"length pipe
6TGF....56.20...............................36.85 ... fllashing
6TGSC....16.33...........................17.63... storm collar
6TGCC.......112.44.....................60.90... cap/spark arrester
10% discount..-123.45..................dont need any
tax.......81.57.................................included

Now thats a huge savings
what do you think? Yes do it or not? I am already $30 bucks short if I purchase from the store as I been saving $ for a while now by selling extra stuff I have in the garage on cl.
Thanks in advanced. The piping will be shipped directly from the metalfab factory via fedex or semi. I imagine dinamite is a honest site correct? got to be if its recommended here, Oh I bragged about this website(hearth.com) to the salesman, he knew of the site it seemed.......thanks for any feed back

I would support my local business, especially since they already spent a lot of time helping you. Without them spending the time and giving you a parts break down, you wouldn't have been able to do an accurate estimate through bargainbasment.com or whoever.

That local business is gouging him with a 200% markup on top of the profit already being made by dynamite. I'm all for supporting the local guy but not if they are crooks.

If they are selling it at the retail price that the manufacturer set, how are they crooks?

Go talk to them and see if they can get any closer to the online price? You never know.

If they want to stay in business, then they need to be competitive and they are obvisouly not competive at MSRP. Consumers are not as ignorant as they used to be. With abundance of information and options, we can now figure out when we're being gouged.

All businesses of every type have a hard time competing against internet pricing, but sometimes like where we work if you give us the online quote we will try and get as close as we can to it, can't win them all.

I will pay more for items locally if the business treats me good and makes it worth my time, the ones who get an attitude about it get no business.

There can be significant overhead expenses in a local store...showroom space, real estate taxes, since they cannot just plunk themselves down in a low cost site, liability insurance to cover customers, etc....
And they have not nearly the volume of a national online seller, so need to make more per customer. There are going to be plenty of times during their day when they are not selling anything.
You should expect to pay more than online....Maybe they'll sell to you at a contractor discount... Show them what your online cost would be, and see if you can meet them in the middle.

Thanks everybody for your advice.....

The local shops total time in dealing with me in person was 8-10 minutes, half the time was showing me a insert the wife & I are interested in. 5 minutes desk time in addition to our 3 minute phone call 6 weeks ago. So 8-10 minutes total in dealing with my current chimney installation.
Is their knowledge as being a dealer worth spending an extra $450 dollars because of the 10 minutes they spent with me? Also I am aware they are my local go to folks & im sure I can exchange any of the parts I purchase if I need a different item, ect...

Has anybody ordered parts online from dynamite.com???

Keep in mind I am funding this project with funds I gained while selling some extra stuff I had on CL, took months to sell that stuff..., I saved all the funds & am still short the total amount to purchase from the local stove shop. Im all for supporting local but sometimes its not worth it, just trying to figure out if this time is one of those times & get some posative feedback about the website I mentioned above!!!

What if it was a local car dealer & I could save a large amount from a dealership that advertises online 50 miles away even if the local guy spent time with me, why would anybody throw their money away??? Money is harder to acquire then spend & I save in every possible direction I can PERIOD,

Okay with that said I'm super excited about finally getting the stove I bought 4 years ago installed, the chimney sticker shock 4 years ago detoured this project from ever happening, back then a different shop quoted me $800 total & we just didn't anticipate the price so stove went in the shed...

Again Im wondering if dynamite is a reputable dealer, suppose I may just need to do some searching around to get the answer I need to that question. Mostly why I have never bought anything online before, I prefer to buy my stuff in person. Thats why I question buying online in the first place.....Thanks everybody.....

I talked with them on the phone yesterday. Very helpful. They are transitioning the dynamite buys site over to woodstovepro.com. Same company. Gave me a discount code for 20% off. You should call them.

That is between a rock and a hard place, $500 is quite the chunk. I would try to deal them down maby split the difference ?
One great thing about buying local is no shipping damage, new pipes look ugly with dents/scratches and takes longer to exchange by shipping. I have also had good luck and saved alot of money on line ordering like you are seeing currently.
The system will work the same either way purchased, and the ball is in your field, good luck Guy.
Be sure to post some pics when completed, hot belly ones too.

Todd

I'd see if they would split the difference.
I did order mine online, but then again my local place was not knowledgeable.

No one's looking out for your wallet but you, do what's best for you.

What is you simply throw some of the business their way? You have a list of parts. Order the stuff you really save on online and order some of the smaller stuff from the local guy as a "thank you" for his help. Sure you might have spent and extra $30-50 than you would have online, but how much of your time did they save buy walking you through what you needed. It might have been only 10 minutes of their time, but did they save you 30 minutes or more your yours?

Buying from the internet site isn't like taking your bussiness overseas. I bought from they and was happy with the way the advice and purchase went. I like to support the local guys too, but the guys at the other site are just the same as you. They get up in the morning, put on their pants and go to work trying to earn a living. At that price difference, I would spend my money where I could do the best.

bigfoot your pipe part numbers from dynamite are for metalfab chimneys and maybe your local dealer was quoting for a selkirk or other brand system.... are certain brands better quality? i have to imagine so but maybe i am wrong
