Dolmar 5100s

5100s is one of the stronger 50cc saws you'll encounter. Lots of folks have run 3/8 pitch chain on it instead of the .325 that is typically found on that displacement.

The main issue I've heard with them is that the factory had tuned them far too lean. If the dealer didn't tune the saw before handing it to the customer, lean run issues developed.

Real nice saw - I run a PS-510 and it's a great saw. Been running it for 4 years without a problem until a week or so ago - need to replace fuel line. Otherwise, couldn't be happier - you'll like that 5100! Where's the picture??!! Cheers!

Great saws. Keep 'em tuned right and you'll be a happy camper. Let 'em get lean, and you'll be buying a new top end. These are hotrod saws, particularly in their early incarnation, and the margin for error is slimmer than it is for a saw that isn't set up this way, a saw that has a more mild disposition. But if you do your part, the reward is obvious: a saw that punches well above its weight. My 5100s easily outcuts my 346xp (50cc version).

3/8" chain on a 16-18" bar is a great setup for these guys.

I bot one 2 years ago from a fellow on Ebay. It can really scream but i try and listen for the rough sound or 4 stroking but I'm not very good at it. I do check it with a tach. Manual says to use reg unleaded with a min octane value of 87 but a higher value is ok. Dolmar recommends a 50:1 mix using a synthetic oil meeting quality grade JASO FC or ISO EGD. I use Woodland Pro from Bailey's. As the others have said it makes for a good mid size saw, especially when replacing the safety chain with a full chisel one.
