Trying to get feedback on HearthStove Mansfield. Worth $3,100? We have 2400 SF living space with 25 ft cathedral ceiling 4/12 slope or is it 12/4? Anyway it's steep.

I used a way cheap steel wood stove to heat 1200 SF doublewide for 10 years. Warped the hell out of the stove by going 0 to raging too fast but the hubby once heated the place to 90 with snow outside.

New house -- new stove. You fellas have any suggestions on stove types, sizes?

I use a Mansfield to heat a similar sized house. The prices went up a lot, I paid $1,700 in 1999 as a factory second. I still don't know why it was a second.

I have been happy with the stove. It heats our house from November to April on 4 cords. The only problem I had was a warped door and Hearthstone replaced it under warrenty with no questions asked.

Where do you live?

Emma Lou, welcome to the world's best source for stove information......erhh...what.... don't what?... I didn't.... erhhh. Excuse me. You have come to a place to learn about solid fuel burning. Well, this is the place. First, we need a lot more information. Let's here what you have, not what you have seen. This forum can match the pattern in your lenoleum to your heating needs, right :red: We're happy to give you information, but you first. Where are you? What are you heating? How big? What insulation? What heating do you have already? What do you want to accomplish. Lot's of work for you, but the rewards are worth it.

Did I do OK?.... What did I do wrong?.... can I have another chance?.... OK, I'll be quite now..... Sorry..... really sorry. OK, I'll be quiet.

First -- I have no idea how to use a chat space, if that's what this is. But here goes...

Live on east side of coastal range in Oregon, about 40 miles west of Portland on south side of hill.

Owner built new house is 3 stories, 1st floor is finished shop (will not heat w/stove); 2nd is den/kitchen (28'x32'), livingroom (22'x22'); 3rd is loft style master suite (28'x32'). Livingroom & loft ceilings are 14/12 pitch. We have lots glass on east & south sides. Early morning sun in summer. Morning & afternoon sun in winter.

Looked at the Mansfield and everyone hates the colors and style -- what's with the duck feet? But it's big. Totally like the sea foam or black colors and style of the Heritage but is it too small to heat house? Rumor is Hearthstone is coming out with a Mansfield with a side door, but of all the (IMHO) incredibly stupid things, the hinges are on the bottom rather than the side of the door.

Daytime comfortable temps for us are between 65-70 f. Nites 55-60. Our air system allows circulation without cooling or heating. And we have very efficient ceiling fans.

Most readily available wood is oak and doug fir.

the larger mansfield is called the eqinox. The side door dropps down for easier loading and cleaner loading. personaly i think it brillant. Its a bit larger then the mansfied.

MSG-my curiousity is piqued. What more do you know of this new monster Heritage stove?Pricing,ratings,output,dimensions,photos-any feedback would be appreciated.

Hearthstone makes some nice soapstone stoves, but it sounds like you all are not enamored with the looks of the bigger ones. No problem, my wife doesn't like the look of the bigger Hearthstones either. But if you want a bigger stove and are not set on soapstone, then there are several other good looking stoves that would fit the bill nicely.

What is the primary heat in the house (other than wood)? By the dimensions given, you'll be heating about 2200 sq ft, is that correct? Will the stove be on the 2nd (main) floor? Will the stove be expected to provide all the heat 24/7 all winter long or will is be used more occasionally like evenings and weekends? If it is to supplement heat, you might get along with a bit smaller stove in our climate, especially if the house is well insulated. If you really want a soapstone stove, you might also want to look at the Hearthstone Phoenix, which has more traditional styling and smaller "feet".

Emma lou, just reading over your posts again and see that we live within shoutin' distance - Newberg. Also wonder if you have your new stove? Buck, from Bucks' Stove Palace stopped here last week after delivering a stove to Gaston. If you haven't made a final decison I suggest you talk with him. We were looking at the Heritage - but he saw that our set up was better for the Homestead - so we're going in to Portland next week to look them over. Let us know what you end up with.

Buck came by our place the same nite. We had a 6-7pm appointment, he got here at 10:30pm. He recommends a Mansfield or larger. We will probably go with the Heritage in sea foam. Just gotta talk Buck into letting us pick out one and have him store it til the hearth is built.

We think it'll do and it won't take up so much room. Not sure how often it will be used in this house. Today it's 57 outside and cloudy. We're getting enough sun for heat gain and the heat exchanger only kicked in once this morning. It's 67 inside and very comfy.

Regarding that drop down side door. At a trade show, the hinges broke when the door was dropped from midway. I'm twitchy so would probably drop it.

Yeah, Buck stopped here at 11:30(PM) and left at 12:30 AM!. On one website it describes Buck as a unique character. They got that right!-and I found him to be the only stove dealerto really ask me questions. He knows his stuff, guess that's why he's been in business for over 30 years, and we plan to get our stove there too. I think there will be a learning curve to operate a soapstone(and probably cast iron and steel also) during these quirky Spring days - yesterday rainy, wet, kinda chilly and today in the 60's. Would be great to see some pictures of your stove set up whenever you get it all done.

Thank you all for your instructive opinions and information. BNCU -- I would be happy to send picture or post it if I can figure out how to add a picture.

we have had our mansfield for 5-6 years now and are very happy with it..both factory and dealer have been excellent would buy again...

Buck came by last nite. Only 2 hours late this time. He brought 3 Heritages to pick from and the Mansfield just in case we had changed our minds. He has an ingenius powered dolly for stairs! We stuck with the Heritage and we'll install it. Right now it looks real cute sitting amongst the boxes and furniture (we are mid-house build).

We went to the Stove Palace lasat week and picked out a Homestead. I thought he was going to deliver it Sunday night - but guess we got our wires crossed? He's going to leave it on a dolly as our hearth is not ready yet. I'll figure out how to post pics and hope you do also - as we would enjoy seeing your finished product.
