Need Help purchasing 1st pellet stove

Good morning all,

Bought our home last year in an area with no natural gas access. After using oil for a winter and spending a little over $2000 w a thermostat set at 68/69during the day and 65 overnight.

With that said. We have had enough and decided to take the Pellet Plunge. After going to a few dealerships and talking to friends we have narrowed it down to a Quadra Fire Ckassic Bay or an Eco Choice Heatilator PS50. (price, style, ease of use/maintenance were determining factors).
We were offered the Heatilator for $1599 and the Quadra Fire for $2099.
We are leaning towards the Quadra due to the fact that it looks a little nicer and from what I was told has a better heat exchange than the Eco Choice. Plus the gentleman came down from $2500. Said he knew we were impressed by the Quadra's looks and design so he wanted to earn our business.

Thoughts, advice? Our home is 1590 sq ft single level ranch. Possibility of 300 sq ft addition in a few years.

We love our PS50 ! Has a low-med-hi setting and a feed gate adjustment in the hopper to adjust the amount of pellets fed at one time......Thats it......This is our 1st stove and we wanted something without all the bells and whistles for our 1st stove.......DexterDay and various others can extoll the virtues of the Classic bay 1200............Have not heard a bad word re: the heatilator or the Quad..........

The Heatilator is a Quad under its skin. Both are HHT companies. The Quad has a better heat ex-changer, And should have higher efficiency numbers IMHO.
 
Might consider this brand, plus you can save quite a bit buying a refurb. The senior tech of the company is a member here, and their customer service is the best. If you're the least bit handy w/ tools, you can maintain & fix them yourself.

Price includes new OAK and free shipping to a local loading dock, or direct to your doorstep for an additional $75.

That is a very good price for the Classic Bay CB1200 ! ! !
 
That price on a CB 1200 is fantastic. I paid around $2,700 for mine. Used it for just over 5 seasons and now it has left for another home. With noting more than a new Door gasket and an igniter (ignitor wasn't bad, I had gate set to low, saved old ignitor as a back up).
Lithe PS-50 is a nice stove as well, but the heat exchanger in the Quad is far superior. If paying full retail, I would say go PS-50, but because of the price break? I would pull the trigger on the CB..

I used mine about 90% of the time n Low. I went with the low and slow approach. Don't think you need to have it blasting on High wall the time. It heats better and more even on a Low or even Med heat setting.

Easy to clean, easy to work on, and heats like the Sun.

I noticed you're from Mass as well, would you mind sharing what dealer you got that price from? I got a price of about $2600. for a Santa FE!! Almost $400. over MSRP, and she said I got a discount. :eek: That price came from Enchanted Fire Side.
I'm probably going with a Harman P43 from The Stove Place, depending on what kind of deal I can get.
 
Thanks to everyone who responded. I have decided to go with the Quadra Fire Classic Bay. The Heatliator sounds like a great stove but the final factor was simply the look of the Classic. I agree with the posters above, if the price was $2400-$2500 I would probably go with the Heatilator but for $2100, I think it's worth the extra $500. I'm happy I found this forum, I am sure I'll be back for info and suggestions. Thanks again o everyone

I have had my ps50 for a few years and it runs perfect.I paid $1699.00 and a free ton of pellets.
 
NEVER but a stove based on looks... but I guess i chimed in too late...
 
I like the 80lbs hopper.Its a work horse of a stove.
