I'm in the market for a new log splitter. I'm thinking 26-28 ton vertical and horizontal. I've checked out iron and oak Oregon and brave units. What brands work the best?

They all seemed to be pretty good these days. I looked at every major brand. Ended up with Gravely 22 ton.
Same as an Ariens basically. The ones you are looking at are a little more higher end. They are more expensive
And all 3 have a good review. I really only wanted a small more movable unit. Very happy with it so far.

I really like my Huskee 22, if that is too small for you look at the 35 ton...

I use 22 ton huskee. Works fantastic and has split everything I've given it. Great reviews and has paid for itself already.

They are good. However, you don't need one that big for sure. You can go big if you wish but in my humble opinion, it is a waste of good dollars. More expensive to buy and more expensive to run. We have had a 20 ton with a 5 hp motor for over 20 years. Repair cost so far is zero. We've split well over 200 cord with this. Paid $800 if my memory is right and it is an MTD, basically the same thing as the 22 ton Huskee. I see that Tractor Supply has the Huskee on sale at $950 right now.

love my huskee 22 also. What are ya splitting? A quick search will show you plenty of threads on here for this unit, also.

Yea.... Man.... Nothing wrong with it for sure.....

Of the three units mentioned in your first post, the I and O is one heck of a well built and designed unit. That said, there ain't a thing wrong with any of the other splitters mentioned either.

I'm running a Huskee 22 ton from TSC as well and it has worked flawless for me. As a matter of fact I pulled it out yesterday to split wood for a friend and it fired up second pull after sitting since last spring.

I have a 37ton Northern Tools, North Star machine. Great machine. I've had it 5 years now. The only thing I don't like is, it's really heavy. The Honda motor is perfect.

Great for you.... Enjoy........

Congrats, Firemedic!

I've never used an Oregon splitter and they weren't around when I was in the market for one, but I like what I've read and seen. Make sure to report back after you've used it.

That 37 looks like a clean mean beast.....

You guys with all your shiny toys.;)

Good on ya - now get out there and get that stuff dirty. They were built to work.

Let us know how you like the splitter. I was debating the Iron & Oak and the Oregon. I picked I&O but was very curious about the Oregon performance. Just chose I&O because of better track record and the large tires.
