Looks like free heat

That be some good soft maple. Splits like a charm. Dries fast (6 months many times), burns a bit fast, lights easy and even gives good coals. Not as high on the btu as hard maple but still good firewood. Burn it mostly daytime though as it won't hold the long fires.

If they're sellers or hoarders it won't work. But some companies don't have a place to take and store the wood so they have to pay to drop it off at the dump. If your place is convenient for them they'll save time and dump fees and maybe even have the satisfaction of knowing the wood is going to good use.

Probably depends on your area. Always nice to throw the driver a $20 tip or so as a small thanks.

I suppose it can't hurt to shoot a few of them an e-mail and ask. Worst they're going to do is not reply or reply and tell me to take a hike... I'd imagine being here in Wisconsin, but tree service companies would have connections and a long list of friends, families and hoarders who would gladly take a full-sized tree.

Probably a long shot for me, but I'll see what happens.

I dont know what works for getting tree companies to dump in your yard. Everyone around me charges.
Im not in with the In crowd apparently.
I guess you gotta keep asking...even in the face of mostly rejections.

When we lived in Md. years back , i used to a lot of my wood from a tree company . They are sometimes the best places to check 1st. Awesome score .

The black marks toward the outside of the base look like old tap marks. Maybe she was sugared at one point.

Yep, thats about how it works. Call around and ask or find a guy working down the street. The biggest catch is that processing a log load will really hammer your yard if you are into a well manicured lawn.

I asked the same company that did work for me twice, they said they mulch it all, they don't want to be bothered giving wood away...
