Any tips I'm removing a wall shield? The ceramic spacers do not cut so well with a sawzall. Some of the screws are directly in the studs.

Diamond blade for the sawzall? Or diamond wheel on a 4" grinder?

If the heat shield is attached with screws is there a reason you can't just remove the screws instead of having to cut through the ceramic spacers?

The screws heads are buried in the mortar underneath the tile.

All of the screws should follow the stud lines. Can you take a flat bar and rake off the tiles on the stud lines to gain access to the screws? Or can you get a prybar between the spacers and the stud and pry?

Excellent idea. I will try those two ideas in that order.
