I have a Made in West Germany 056 With under 30 hours on it I might consider selling. It's in excellent condition and I still have the manual and a spare chain for it. It's just so heavy compared to my 440 and 372's that I almost never use it these days.

I'll snap a few pictures later today and post them here.

The older stihl's had tons of torque ! The 056 / 051 / 050 were beast's back in the day . Ive also been looking for an older stihl , an 051 . I just want one ;)

Vibration and weight of them are a killer though

well their specd saws you dont use all day or such.. fell a tree cut off a few ends I see these newer Made in USA electronic Eng. Mgmt. thingys on E bay etc rebuilt n all that for 900+ bux I dont think so .. So folks killing them with improper gas mixes New or is eng mgmt going crazy and Fubar ing the stuff ? dont know and i work on the stuff.. for light wight i use a Ron Hartill designed Poulan 3.3 or in Pro I think 365 for the 180 or so bux used or so these models will kill a stihl of similar size for the cash outlay mines from the late 80's twin rings on a nikasil bore n jug a modern air filter kinda like a K&N i cannot kill her.. very lil plastic .. Im also using Solid bar/s and full skip Rs f chains 3 inch splines stikin in my chaps .A hot setup with lil work ..

good lord in ID it'll cost 100 plus to getr it to NC he he.. maybe on a trip out that way id consider it .. how much is the big Q . that 440 holdin up. you usin Rsf chains and solid roler noses ?

Yes all 056 are German made all Stihls are german made till the what 2000's or so .. the point .. no wanna amerikan assembled /german licd. saw and im also not going to pay 400 bux for a 30 yr old saw or 1600 for a new 660 or any such nonsense ..

the techs at Mid Atlantic Stihl are good old friends o mine , Most the old time Real saw shops that had and cared for the likes of Models like 056 are loong gone their owners dead their sons have the Buis. now and sell this new junk . Id just close up shop and open a porn book store or sunthin My equip never ever leaves my hands once in em, why it all works

Sorry for the slow reply, been traveling for work and have been swamped. 4th Quarter stuff always gets busy.

The 440 is holding up just fine but honestly I reach for it a lot less often than my 372 XPW's. I've been considering selling the 440 to a neighbor I go woodcutting with since I feel the 372 has better anti-vibe and balance. It's not dramatically different but enough that I tend to prefer the 372.

The 028 is not worth that much. $100 maybe?

yep just want my old 5-7 cuber back in the shop ready to go not real picky old 056 or baird poulan green n blk in similar size these were the real deal no eng mgmt sytems or any o that nonsense with minimal attention these things lasted decades. like all else our govt n big buis forces on other industries this new shiet is made to be serviced made to be worked on they gonna see to it , its worth alot of money folk .. let others buy into it all ..

I too buy old and fix my stuff but the truth is most folks today don't and can't work on their stuff.

tis a shame so many cannot do my daughters work on their bikes 4 wheelers and saws n other things not cuz they have to at all they like me just do not want people making poor decisions with their equipment and are opinionated about the things they use daily etc need the things to work on our terms unlike the save us from ourselves regulations that form the basis of things mfgd today that do not work so well.. cell phone batteries runnin a car Vs a small 3-4 cyl diesel it just gets comical after a few minutes kinda like wash Dc these days more like a SNL skit..

be patient and you can find deals on ebay. the 056 is a great old saw if you are not using it all day. the problem on those old points/condensor saws is getting parts if they stop producing spark and they are heavy. would be a good saw for milling.
