Ok here it goes. I just had my first pellet stove installed last month (Harman p61a). I initially ordered 3 tons of Barefoot pellets from my stove dealer. After spending amost $1100 for the 3 tons + delivery, I decided to go on a pellet mission. I see all of the mixed reviews on all the different pellets here, I figured I'd try an test as many as I could. I purchased 10-15 bags of almost every pellet I could find (except for North American and Inferno because I haven't read one good thing about either of them yet) and an infrared thermometer. I'm newbie so I'm no expert with stove settings or a scientist, but I'm sure I can get a general idea of what pellets are decent and which aren't worth buying. Here is a list of what I have.

Barefoot 3 tons
Stove Chow 15 bags
Somerset 15 bags
Pres-to- Logs 15 bags
Okanagan platinum 10 bags
Okanagan Douglas Fir 10 bags
Energex Hardwood 10 bags
Timber Heat 10 bags
American Wood Fibers 10 bags
Natures Own 10 bags
Greene Team Platinum 10 bags

I haven't burned much yet except a bag of the Stove Chow. I'll update as I gradually burn through it all.

Big thanks to the veteran pellet burners on this site for helping out us Newbies. I read as much as I can on this site and learned so much more than I got from the dvd that my stove came with.

You're an addict! Wish we had that selection around here. Sheesh
 
Most of these are big box store pellets. Except the barefoot okanagan and energex. On the island we only have a few local dealers with a decent selection of premium brand pellets. All of which will run you $300/ton min + delivery. I hit up 4 Lowe's stores across Long Island to make the stash. I have to say that the Somersets were the hardest to find.

I would have tries for the pellet pig club but I don't meet the other requirements. 1 stove and no truck. I did however lug 2 tons (10 bags at a time) in a ford fiesta if that counts for anything lol.
 
Honestly, you really don't have a bad pellet in that bunch. Some might burn a bit better than others but you have a very nice selection!

i may have been approved just on sheer quantity and getting them in each year as soon as the ice and snow is melted from the driveway. ;lol

pretty sure i'll be doing some cash and carry next spring in the subaru.
the local shop has a great price on what i usually get delivered from down south.

the northeast has higher prices than most places except alaska.
but from everything i read, long island is higher than everywhere else in the region
