That sounds like a sweet deal!

Hey guys I've seen this add on Craigslist also jtp11 I see u got it delivered was it good wood and did u pay for it and if so how much. I called this guy and the add says free but wanted $200 for him to drop off which was no problem it's well worth it if it's hardwood he estimated 6-8 cords in the load he had. just was trying to see if others have gotten from him and if they were satisfied thanks guys

No way is there 6-8 cords on that truck. Once yo get it stacked and split you might have 2. At that point you are looking at 100 bucks cord green.

image.jpg I'm no expert but that looks like more then two cords to me I'm gonna give a shot prob next week sometime we let u know how it guys

I tried plenty of times with this Tree Service and was only told they will call me back......Nothing!

Even if it costs $200, it's worth it if you are willing to put the work into it. Compared to the cost of C/S firewood here, it's a deal

This one worked out good for me. Jim responded to my phone calls got back to me several times and was honest what was being dropped off. I got about 2 cords from him in one drop off. They where big and needed quite a bit of work with only a 14inch bar chainsaw but knew from the start from his description. Also I live in Hauppauge so you still might get him to deliver if your not to far from Huntington.

FREE HARDWOOD LOGS DELIVERED FREE - HUNTINGTON AREA
There are quite a few smaller diameter logs in this load which is maple and cherry.
These logs are un-cut and un-split.
You will need a good chainsaw to cut into fireplace length.
Then it needs to be split into firewood pieces.
Stay warm this winter!
Call or text (631)445-8574 - Jim

There are plenty of deals like that all over the island.
These guys have to pay any where from $20-$40 a ton to dump it.
I'm friends with 2 tree service companies and they have hooked me up several times.
Plus, I have grabbed a couple different trucks driving down the road and they came to my house.

Next time you are driving and see a truck, stop them and I'm tellin ya they will be more then happy to follow you home.

In this pic my friend loaded my trailer for me!

Thanks.

Here's a more recent load from a guy I stopped while sitting in traffic on the expressway. Totally free.
I've even considered having them PAY ME 1/2 the cost of what it would cost them to dump it at the dump yard. But I'm not that ballsy. Yet!

I'm on just under an acre, but it's filled with gardens, a pool, a pond and LOTS of wood. 25 cord c/s/s

4 cord stack in driveway

3 cord along back wall of garage
image.jpg

9 cord on side yard( that's an old picture the racks are full now)
image.jpg

9 cord jammed in back corner.

And still have room for more!!!
Basically, I took over the entire east side of my property.

For you guys contemplating this kind of delivery, the rear mounted boom is very important for making the delivery into a tight spot like this. Front mounts lack the reach that the rear one have and getting it unloaded can difficult. They might not make it in a tight spot like this. A rear mount has a lot more reach behind the truck.

That is true. That's what happened with that pic of the other truck that had a small trailer with a grapple. It could only unload on the sides. So luckily the trailer could dump as well as the truck. But being my processing area is so tight it's always better to have a guy who doesn't have to dump unless its like the one pic where it's allready bucked.

Mike,

You don't have a chainsaw listed in your sig. What saw do you run?

Believe or not a Stihl MS 311 with a 24" bar. There hasn't been anything I haven't been able to get through but there have been times when it bogged down and was straining a bit. I am going to port it soon.

Someone just recently posted that this guy tried to charge after dropping off logs. Be careful.

That's not too smart on his part. If he asks after he drops, you could just tell him to load it back up and get his wood off your property if he wants to change the deal.

Someone looks pretty angry at your log guy: http://longisland.craigslist.org/zip/4171229763.html

BEWARE Firewood from this clown is not free! (Nassau & Suffolk )
See below a copy of this guys craigslist ad! Posted under free... then when you call he wants $100 for mixed soft and hardwood logs and $300 for all hardwood logs.

BEWARE There are people out there like this everyday! Charging $300 for wood that he would have to pay to dump somewhere else. $300 for Gas and time! What a scam....
