Decided to get going on the first of a couple break in fires to make sure everything is good to go and figured I would share it. So far so good!

Shouldn't be long before you'll be burning more, colder weather coming, I'm bringing some wood in today for this week. A couple more break ins and you can let her rip.

Looking good. Ready to get'er done this season.

Looks like some kind of heat shield over the air duct, interesting. I think you're really gonna like the Summit, does a good job.

Looks like part of the surround top was cut out? I have not seen any that angle in the corners like that?

Hmm, if so that would directly affect the mantel clearance. Maybe a part was missing or damaged?

I was assuming that's a dark black piece of metal attached to the lip of the top casing but wider than that lip that the surround hangs on. And if that's what it is, am curious if it came that way or was added.

But I don't see it on there in the pic when it was installed.

So am thinking it's that mantel heat shield over to the right in that pic. But didn't know it could be installed like that.

Very interesting.

The picture is deceiving, that is actually the mantel shield. Good call Dave. After looking at the pic again though it does look like the surround hole is cut different. Below is a pic from a different angle showing the shield.

Thanks, that helps alot! The shield integrates into the surround very well.

I agree, I actually like the look of it better with the shield on. At first I was skeptical but after installing it I sort of think it looks more finished. Hopefully it does it's job or I'm going to have to raise the mantel up a few inches more. I'll find out soon!
