stovepipe?

I need to buy/make some kind of guard/fence around my stove to keep the little one away. I have looked at the kidco hearth gate (recommended on previous threads on this forum), and it looks great. Only problem is the size. My stove is in a reasonably small room, so I would prefer the enclosure to be the same size as my hearth pad (40in x40 in). kitco comes in 24 inch panels. does anyone know of other manufacturers of hearth gates that can safely keep kids away from the stove?

Alternatively I could make one myself easily enough-- wood though. Is this an issue with clearances? I expect yes. My stove (jotul f3cb) needs 9 inches of floor protection. If I built a little wooden fence it would be about 11 inches from the stove on the sides. Clearance to combustible walls is much more-- 24 inches I think. So could I get away with making a little enclosure out of wood? or no?

Anyone have any other creative suggestions for how to make a nice looking, safe enclosure for a wood stove to keep kids away?

thanks

Place some vegetables on your hearth, in plain sight; my kids wouldn't come within 50' of it. :p

This is just my opinion, but I would think that your wooden guard would have to meet the clearance to a combustable wall. Why not make one out of metal instead of wood, then you won't have to worry about the clearance. Or simply build it farther away from the stove.

I would also think that only 11" of clearance to the stove would allow for curious fingers to reach the stove through the guard.

This is a folding screen that has worked fine with our two kids.
I made another cross piece for the top so that if it is pushed back it will be far enough from the stove to prevent a burn. I picked up the screen at a local fireplace shop.
