Get a text message from a good buddy today. He knows I burn wood and the fact I have a truck and a saw is a bonus.

"I have a couple Hickory trees I want to drop. If you can give me a hand you can have the wood."

Uhhh.......YEAH! Psyched because I have wanted some hickory for a long time and never came across any. Probably cause everyone wants it.

I'll be sure to take pics.

Want to grab it soon so I can get it split and stacked ASAP. Is Hickory a 1-year wood?

Yeah for the most part as long as you split it dont leave no rounds unsplit.

I tried to give hickory away last winter. Lots of it, down and limbed...no takers. I just dropped a huge honey locust and ended up pushing it all inn a burn pile and burned it and likely will do similar with a huge walnut I need to take dow,

What? Don't you burn wood yourself? Both of those are primo wood. That wouldn't last two minutes around here.!!!

Are you trying to make trouble? This is a community of wood burners (for heat) here.

Did you try posting the available wood here? I have to imagine you aren't the only hearth.com reader in your area.... If you were near me I'd be all over that (along with many others...).

Wow. If you didn't want it there are surely lots of other locally who would PAY you for it.....Just cant see dozing it into a pile unless its already rotten. I can get all the hickory I want anytime & occasionally Honey Locust too but still don't believe in wasting it.

Wish some of my friends would call about giving away some hickory. Instead it is pine or box elder...

Never burned hickory but have always heard great things about it. And I WISH someone was giving away any kind of locust around here - I'd be on that pretty quick!

Did you at LEAST play Taps while you burned hickory/locust IN A BURN PILE?
