Had to take the chill out

Burned last night and the forecast looks like we won't be stopping any time soon. Time to get back to the routine.

Night 3 for me. I fire off about a 3/4 load of chunks & uglys around 9-9:30pm. Get her going, set the air bottomed out and run the blowen fan on low and forget it. Stove rolls wonderful all night. Go to bed around 12:30 with her still cruising at 450* or so. Wake up around 7:00, nothing but ash and house still nice and comfortable at 70-71 degrees.

Once it gets cold I'll cycle 3-full loads a day on a schedule of about 8am, 4pm, 11pm. Good stuff.

I did a full reload before I left for work this am. It was around 34 outside. We were out of town early in the week so the house got cold. Its taking a little longer than I expected to catch up. We even burned some propane to warm the place up last night.
I'm burning some deadfall Ash that I c/s/s about 2 years ago. Its burning quite nicely.

Both mornings last weekend and every evening this week after work I did one fire with just a few logs--keeps the chill off during this in between season. It has been 50's during the day but high 30's and low 40's at night.

Been burnin' for a few nights now and yesterday morning. Loaded up last night about 1000 and dampered down. Got up this morning, stirred the coals and threw a few splits on. We are crusin' here! Back in the groove

Yup my time of year to aggrevate my wife by leaving a "trail of wood bits" on my way from basement pile to upstairs wood stove. Lord my wife HATES late Oct/early Nov when I heat with the stove and she dont hold back letting me know it! I usually fire up the boiler about second week of November. But you see I got her figured out. The boiler is in the basement right under the kitchen. Keeps that kitchen floor about 80 all winter. She ain't foolin me I just think she likes warm feet when she is working in the kitchen baking pies and cakes for people. Wood bits my butt!!

First frost this morning and 20 degrees when I got up. Definitely need a fire! Luckily I had coals from last night's fire.

Frost at my house too. Cozy inside.

Frosty this morning down here as well came home and the GF has the Clydesdale up and cruising.

Wood so far:
Blackgum @10months bone dry - feels like I'm throwing Styrofoam in the box
Silver maple @10months - cracks like a bat
Elm @11months - worms devoured the stuff swiss cheese styrofoam
Red oak @4yrs - even overnight burn and plenty of coals this morning, couple of pieces looked to have more beetle BTU's than wood

Got a good lead on some sizeable hickory that may be worth the drive - when I get a day off in Nov.

this morning here was the "killing frost"... we've had a few frosts over the last couple of weeks, but this is one that finally took out my peppers and eggplants... time to fire up the tiller. Got a load of hickory in the stove right now... 77 degrees inside.. outside smells like BBQ...
