before I build one, looking for anyone who has had experience with this interesting wood burner. This would not be for food preparation, but room/living space heating or shop heating.

I don't know a lot about them, but a search using the forum's Search field on 'Rocket Stove' should find several past discussions on this topic.

Do you have a specific question? There's lots of good info out there on the web if you search, but if you need an answer to something specific I can help.

There's a wealth of information on rocket stoves on the web. One good place to start is at the Permies.com site where there is a dedicated section for rocket stoves. Lots of variations out there - we're planning on trying a couple of them in the near future.

I watched as many vids as I could find on you tube, and I did check out the Permies.com site. Im not finding so much info on how much space can be heated with X-sized stove. I think I'd like to experiment with it as a possible backup to power outage situations or as an extreme cold "helper" stove.

Of course it depends a lot on the space, the fuel, and the build, but you can reasonably expect to heat 1000 sq. ft. with an 8" system.
