It's hard to believe but this will be our 4th winter with the Woodstock Fireview. The wife and kids were indifferent (at best) about MY woodstove to start with but now they expect that thing to be running as soon as it starts to get cool outside!! 
I (We) have been very happy with the Fireview and how warm it keeps our house. Much, much warmer and more comfortable than the heatpumps alone. I also like how it looks more like a piece of furniture than a woodstove for the off-season.
Anyway, Ran a brush up the chimney a couple of weeks ago and got about a coffee can or so of powdery ash out of the chimney. Same thing last season. Nothing gooey at all on the brush. I have no way to reach the top of my chimney without renting a lift, but I am able to push my brush all the way up to the cap from the bottom. At the end of the winter my cap is black all over on the outside but by the end of the summer it is silver again from being washed clean by the weather. To me this is a good sign that no gooey stuff is up there.
The only issue I am beginning to have with the stove is the so called scoop under the cat is starting to sag. I first noticed this last winter. I haven't been in contact with Woodstock about this, yet, but I know others have had some issues with this also. I also have not searched the forum in quite a while about this but I will.
