It's hard to believe but this will be our 4th winter with the Woodstock Fireview. The wife and kids were indifferent (at best) about MY woodstove to start with but now they expect that thing to be running as soon as it starts to get cool outside!! :) I (We) have been very happy with the Fireview and how warm it keeps our house. Much, much warmer and more comfortable than the heatpumps alone. I also like how it looks more like a piece of furniture than a woodstove for the off-season.

Anyway, Ran a brush up the chimney a couple of weeks ago and got about a coffee can or so of powdery ash out of the chimney. Same thing last season. Nothing gooey at all on the brush. I have no way to reach the top of my chimney without renting a lift, but I am able to push my brush all the way up to the cap from the bottom. At the end of the winter my cap is black all over on the outside but by the end of the summer it is silver again from being washed clean by the weather. To me this is a good sign that no gooey stuff is up there.

The only issue I am beginning to have with the stove is the so called scoop under the cat is starting to sag. I first noticed this last winter. I haven't been in contact with Woodstock about this, yet, but I know others have had some issues with this also. I also have not searched the forum in quite a while about this but I will.

Take care,
Kenny

Sounds like the stove is working out great. Do you have the old cast iron scoop or the new stainless scoop? When I had my Fireview the old iron scoop sagged on year two and needed replacement. I think it was like 10 bucks. When the new stainless scoop came out I went ahead and replaced it, no biggie to replace.

The cast iron was $10, I think the stainless is around $30?

Were you happy with the stainless scoop? I just looked at a post where you thought it changed the circulation in the stove.

Do you still have your fireview?

No more Fireview, sold it to a friend. Im burning a Keystone now. The stainless scoop is much better. The screen is smaller and wraps around the sides which keeps more or the ash out of the cat.

The scoop is now $54! And out of stock...

A slight sag shouldn't be a problem but it probably won't get better. I wonder why they would be out of stock, you'd think they would have plenty this time of year being busy building stoves.

I didn't call them, just checked the website. Sagging is not that bad yet.

Hey there Kenny! glad to hear all are still happy with the stove. My family too is pretty eager to have the fire going in the morning these days. We're running the stove more than we 'should' as the house is keeping warmer every winter. I find myself sweating now some days so I'm going to have to draw the line here somewhere :)

I would suggest you call the WS folks about that sagging scoop - I'm sure they can take care of you one way or another.

+1. Sometimes companies (even the good ones) get out of sync on the web storefront vs actual inventory. Based on the reputation this company has for customer service, they might even pull one from a stove to send you.

We are starting season 4 too. Still love it. I replaced my scoop with the stainless a couple years ago. I think it is an improvement and it is far more durable too.

Kenny, they do have the scoops in stock now. Call them 800-866-4344 to place the order if the web site still has them listed as out of stock.

Good luck and it is good to see you posting again. Also makes us happy to hear the good words on the Fireview. That thing is difficult to beat!

Thanks Dennis! I check in occasionally but don't post too often. I didn't call, just checked the website. Yea, I've been really, really happy with the Fireview.

The new scoop looks interesting and the old one sagging takes up a little of the firebox...so...I may order one in the next week or two.

Good to hear from everybody!!

Kenny
