Got this Winter's firewood all laid up

The wood shown in my avatar is all in my shed. Life is good.

I started in on bucking the next batch. Splitter needed a new gas line. Saw died. Such is life.

I replaced most of the firebrick in my stove. Cleaned the chimney that didn't need cleaning. I do it every 5 years whether it needs it or not JIC my insurance asks.

We're into single digit daytime temps now so will probably make a fire soon enough.

There are two T-bar fence posts driven in the ground to hold up the pallet. The wood was cribbed at the ends so the pallets didn't really hold much.

Ja, well... not all in life is good.

I was served notice that my job of 17 years was eliminated. I did manage to get a temporary gig on Special Projects for CorpIT.

Future prospects for this town are grim. The mill laid off more than half of the workforce.

As I said, I landed a short term gig with CorpIT, but it does involve me having to travel and work in Montreal from time to time. I did get to keep my office at the mill for now and can do much of my work from there. When the project I'm on now is finished, I hope to land a spot on another project. I might keep going like that for a year or two.

Don't really want to sell and move this late in life. I'm going on 60 so too young to retire but also I don't have enough years left to make up for the loss I'd take selling my home in such a depressed market.

The shed is only half full. Been taking to stack outside for a year before moving it to the shed.

As for sitting in my cozy house, I might be spending more time sitting in airports or some hotel room rather than home by the fire. I'll have to setup an IP cam in the hearth room so I can watch it when I'm away.

For sure the wife will need to fetch her own wood and start her own fires. Time will tell if she will burn less wood and more gas.

Speaking of the wife, bless her... she has taken to running the splitter. She can't keep up with my bucking and I still lift the big rounds for her but she's soldiering on. She's been helping to stack too.

She even went out and bought herself a new snow thrower. She had never ran the old one that is on its last legs.

I see I will need to edit my sig... not HM anymore.

Ja, HM stood for High Maintenance. She's a lovely girl but liked to be taken care of. Now she tells me not to bother running around to the other side to open her car door.

Ja, still burning natural gas. It needs to be a tad colder before I start burning wood. This morning it dipped down to -4°C but then the prognosticators are calling for it to warm up.

I got all my logs bucked, split, and stacked, so my avatar is almost true to form.

Almost I say cuz there is no snow yet. Oh, and I replaced all the pallets on the ground with better quality CHEP pallets.

The wife also split up all the Poplar I had laying around and she gave it to our neighbor. She told me, "next time, throw it in the bush". If it falls in the bush, it stays in the bush but this one fell on my lawn. I have a few more standing dead Poplar I need to fell.
