But your wisdom is without question.

I've started up my Earth OWB for the first time with some well dried hickory. There really is not any real smoke coming out the chimney. You see a little and the heat signature.

I've thrown in some green ugly sycamore and it chugs out the smoke.

I was worried about the smoke and neighbors but with dried hardwood I'll have no problem.

As a bonus-- the heat from the vents cannot be compared to the heat I was getting from my heatpump. Why didn't I do this years ago.

As it should be! Well done and welcome!

The hard thing now is keeping that wood supply up so you don't run out of the primo dried hardwoods. Sure takes work getting wood that way, but it is worth it! Glad you tried it.

Welcome to the addiction :)

Lose that avatar Brian. We don't do guns here.

Yep. Been in the rules for years. If people want to talk guns, go to a few hundred gun sites on the web. They don't do wood burning posts either.

That's cool, Just didn't see it in any of the rules I tried to read, no mention of guns at all. Don't want to break the rules. But the avatar is only a picture, he never mentioned anything about guns.

If you read in the ashcan some of the posts, you will understand!

Keeps things simpler if the avatars are hearth/home related. This place is about info to help people do this burning stuff safely and easily. Same would go for nude avatars, violence, etc. Just not necessary here, but fine in the right place.

Here's where avatars and such are explained. Most folks don't look at the rules and it's an honest mistake. https://www.hearth.com/talk/faq/avatars-signatures-pictures-etc.11/

The ashcan is it's own beast.

Meanwhile, back to burning stuff.................. :)

Ah, I see. I was looking in the rules and guideline section. Never thought to look in the ash can, or knew what it was. Sorry for the hijack. Or any hurt feelings.

Any dry wood will put off minimal smoke. Even pine.

"But it burn too fast" I've had a lot of people tell me that when I ask them why they burn green wood instead of letting it season. Met a guy this week that bought a new cat stove and tried burning green wood in it without success, he took it out and put the old smoke dragon back in and went back to burning green wood. I told him to try some seasoned wood in the cat stove next year, he said he might.

I have some green uglies that I'll throw in when it gets cold and only in the day time when the neighbors aren't home. These uglies don't stack well and I just don't like looking at them.

Welcome to the forum Brian.

Good for you burning dry wood and leading the way. Now to get the rest on the ball....

have your neighbors complained about the smoke? I only ask because I have folks that live near me that compliment the smoke, they like it

But back to the subject. Through it all, we are still full of it.

Neighbors have not complained at all but my unit is closer to their house than mine and I don't want there to be a problem.

This whether is killing me 76 in the day 40's at night

That's what the firepit is for - fall weather, cool spring, even in a blizzard it is nice to build a fire in the pit, uglies go in there even if they do smoke a bit more. Nothing like burning in open air, get it hot enough and it will burn nicely. Absolutely not efficient of course.

Welcome...always nice to see someone from my neck of the woods. You have found a great place.
Would like a bit more time to enjoy it but...
