Wow to me that looks like a scary set up ! Holy close to combustibles !!!
Not at all! Many new stoves can be even closer than this one. Unless it's an old smoke dragon or a Vermont Castings it's hard to say by looking at a picture! Every stove differs, as long as he went by the manufacturers specs then he's good!

to make up for the loss of the magic box perhaps you can switch to a nice set of shiny metal blinds to act as magic reflectors and radiators.

Hey! Guess what? I replaced that "wart" with a piece of new single wall chimney and.......... NO MORE SMOKE SMELL. ;) That odor has been replaced with a very faint smell of paint, from that new section of chimney doing it's thing. The secondary burn is even sweeter now! Thank you SO much for the sound advice- High Five to all. Glad I found this firebox forum! Looking forward to lots of posts. -Johnny

ps- not sure why my pics are sideways. can the moderator fix this for me? IMG_2276.JPG IMG_2286.JPG

Welcome to the forum
Easy fix, you got rid of the wart .
You came to the right place, looks like your cookin now.
Man that's going to be such a big big difference from that boxwood stove , I had one in the garage
I almost bought one of those Country Hearth 2000 stoves, the only reason I didn't was cuz I found a good deal on a used stove, other people on here have them and like em

Cell phone pics don't rotate correctly. Shoot with the camera horizontal and they should post correctly.

That looks like a nice improvement. Is it with the air closed down all the way?

-That pic I took of the flame was with it about 3/4 closed. It was not that big of a fire. It is not too cold in Michigan yet and a 90 degree house is just too much of a good thing! ;)

Welcome Johnny - looking good from a fellow Michigander here. That's a nice looking stove. How large is the fire box?

I eyed up those at TSC before I picked up my NC30 - not at all disappointed in my choice - especially when I consider the price but that one opens to the right which was something I wanted.

Happy burning!!

The U.S. Stove model 2000 is 2.0 cubic feet, heats up to 2,000 cubic feet, up to 89,000 BTUs and takes up to 21" logs. Tractor Supply had these for $50 off and the grand opening {at the White Lake location} subtracted another 10% off of that. So I could not ignore the value here. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that all EPA non-catalytic stoves seem very similar in function and design. >> -Johnny

Update: Six weeks of enjoying the new stove. With the "Miracle" heat reclaimer gone and the paint of the stove & new stove pipe all cured out, this setup emits zero odors now. AWESOME. It has been very cold this week and the stove keeps the house nice and cozy. The dutch oven style humidifier is much easier to keep looking clean than a teapot. The best part is that this stove consumes HALF the wood for the same amount of heat! {compared to the old Vogelzang Lil Sweetiie.} Amazing! I have only emptied the ash drawer ONCE in six weeks. The woodstove room stays cleaner too, as I am handling much less wood. The secondary burn is mesmerizing at times. It is more interesting to watch than most anything on television! Thanks again to all that pointed me in the right direction with this new stove. -JohnnyIMG_2304.JPG

Johnny, glad to hear it's working out for you. We call that caveman tv. My 1 year old lies on the floor two feet from the stove and stares at the flames. It's hysterical. Good luck, man. Stay warm.

Yup - fire and especially secondary fire is mesmerizing. I like to call it the "outback television" because if captivates everyone sitting around it either in the stove or around the outdoor pit. My favorite is the lazy secondary that flairs up off and on but those fires are few and far between during the deep cold - got to have full ignition this time of year!!
