First Haul from the family

Last winter my cousin, who lives about 2 miles away, told me I could cut all the wood I want on his property, as long as it was dead or down. He owns over 100 acres. Between getting wood on my own property cut up, and not wanting to cut in the summer heat, I've waited until now to take him up on his offer. So I can cut on Sundays, and the rest of the time he uses the land for hunting. I'm going to try to go most Sundays when I'm in town and hopefully through the winter I'll get a year's worth. Here's today's load.





This is all from some oak that has been down for about a year. It was all pretty accessible and close to the road. There are some much larger trees that I'm going to try to get in the next month or so.

I'd definitely ask him where to avoid to keep from spooking his favorite spots- rifle season opens Saturday. Cutting, or even walking, in an area usually devoid of people will affect deer movement for several days. You don't want to mess that connection up!

Yes Osage - I already thought of that. The loads I'm going to get are literally right off the road, and he hunts pretty far from the road. It's funny, deer seem to get closer to me when I'm running the saw in the National Forest than at any other time. It's almost like they're wondering what that sound is.
