I just bought a baby bear, great shape and great price ($100) but I can't find any name plate or identification of any kind. Will I be able to use it? (In my home) or do in own a very heavy paper weight?

It would not be a UL listed or EPA Certified stove. It's OK with your state, and there are generic installation clearances in NFPA 211 which is the standard (not a code) that building and local codes are taken from. So yes, you can legally install and use it. Some insurance companies have restrictions on what they allow.
If it's marked with a stove number or fabricator initial, (from your area) it will be on the bottom in weld. Probably from the Dunn Brothers Virginia or W VA unless it was brought from another state. Many from NY and NJ are stamped on the back in an upper corner and will start with the state abbreviation.
