Hi everybody. I'm about to purchase a Max Caddy for my home and am considering a hot water loop as an option. I already have a tempering tank and plumbing from my old system, so the cost would be mostly the loop itself. My dealer indicates they aren't that effective since the loop is in the plenum and not the firebox hence, the water from the loop would not be very warm relative to my old system. Anybody have any thoughts or experiences with this particular add-on?

The Kuuma has its loop at the back of the fire box. It is also A good burner.

Not familiar with either - but generally speaking, I think it is a catch-22. If a hot water loop is in a firebox, it might draw more heat to the water but it also might cause creosote problems. Curious to read more input from users.

Exactly! A coil placed inside a firebox robs valuable heat necessary for proper combustion. I believe the Max Caddy places the coil in the space between the top of the firebox and the heat exchanger. This way it doesn't affect the fire, while extracting enough heat for the coil.
