Long Island, NY wood available

Where you located on LI?

I assume you don't want to chop ... my neighbor has a tree service piling oak rounds at the curb as I'm typing this (Hauppauge).
I don't have the space to store/season that much oak, or I'd be all over it.

Shoot me a PM, I have a reputable source for you if you're looking to have seasoned wood delivered.

That's gonna be a problem this time of year.

Check Craig's List, and keep checking. There is a company constantly posting free pallets in Hauppauge on there, as well.

Also Bio / Envi bricks will help as well..

I found a website that has reviews for firewood sources in long island... I don't know forum rules about posting links but the site is pretty awesome google long island firewood reviews... I am about to get a cord from a company I found on there for 185 delivered to nassau from Suffolk as soon as my rack is done

I've seen a guy posting on Craigslist almost every week has a tree service company and will dump rounds for free in Huntington area. Hope that helps

I didn't catch what you are burning in. If its an EPA stove and you need it dry there are a couple companies on LI that deliver kiln dried firewood. Your going to pay though.

I picked up a few cords worth of unseasoned wood for next year, all free, cut and split myself. I friend gave me about a cord of small cherry rounds from irene but once i split them they are just semi seasoned.

I may need another cord of truly seasoned wood for this year. If you can recommend someone you know that has nice seasoned wood I will definately call them. I'm on LI too, but eastern LI.

Hi Ironspider, what town are you in? I'm in Stony Brook. As far getting seasoned wood this time of year I wish I had a recommendation for you. It's the same all over, the wood may have been cut to length a year or more ago but getting wood that has been split and properly seasoned is really tough to come by. Not that it can't happen but its rare. There is a place delivering kiln dried on both forks but its almost $200 for 1/4 cord so...

If you are in a jam and have any well seasoned wood at all you can buy a cord and mix in the (most likely) wetter stuff with the dry or get some eco bricks to supplement. I've been in your shoes, and its a PITA. I didn't even buy my stove until after I had 2 cord of 18 month CSS locust and it still wasn't dry enough.

I have not yet purchased any wood (too much around to pay for it) and it took me a couple years to get a decent amount ready for use and it seems you can always use more. I've takien the advice of the hearth membership and getting well ahead.
