Any tips or tricks to the install of a Drolet 1400 insert into a fireplace?
I have a neighbor that's been lurking here, and ordered this insert for his big-ol-whomping masonry fireplace. He's a smart guy, so I'm sure clearances are accounted for.
How tough is it to install? It will have a new liner going in at the same time.
Thoughts? thanks in advance.

I had the same insert made by Flame (another SBI company), easy to install, just remove the bricks and door and blower and it is super light to move into the fireplace. Check the baffle to make sure it survived shipping OK, and that the ceramic blanket on top has the round weight on it just below the exhaust exit and you should be good to go. Install the appliance adapter to the 6" flex liner then secure it to the stove with the L brackets shipped with the stove and you should be good to go. New stove smell should go away after 2 low/medium temp break in fires. Faceplate is also easy to put together, took all of 10 minutes for that.

does it come with the appliance adapter?

also -- it says in the manual that it needs a fresh air intake (or does it?) if so, can you take some small stove pipe up to the fresh air opening and lead it to the front?

and -- I hear it doesn't really need a faceplate? I'm building a custom concrete trim piece instead (and it will have gaps -- it won't touch the stove)

also, I have the room for the 1800 but it's special order (only 50 bucks more? -- but it mat be smarter to use the smaller 1400 I'm guessing.

For $50 more, buy the 1800i
