Well, if you've read my past two posts about my cracked lid issue, you know a little about this. I will start from the top to explain my level of frustration.

Last winter, me and my wife noticed a crack in the lid of our Lopi Leyden. This was only the 2nd season burning in it at the time so it was fairly new. We mentioned it to the dealer and sent him pictures. He said no problem and they can get one "right away" but said it would be better to wait for spring so i didn't have to be without it just in case they needed a week or two. A week or two i could have dealt with.

So fast forward to August, and reminding them throughout the spring and summer and apparently he somehow kept loosing my emails and pictures, they finally told me they got in touch with the manufacturer and would have one soon...soon...

Two months later, it is now mid to late October and they call up saying it finally came in. I had my wife run out there (the store is far from us so its not very convenient to go, nor can i go myself due to working even farther).
She took the old lid with the crack, and the guy gave her the sealed box with the lid and said "everything's in there".

Low and behold she gets it home and there is no handle on it. We call the dealer and they say they will leave it on the desk and we can pick it up anytime. As i said earlier, we are pretty far, and couldn't make it out there until the next weekend. So next weekend we go and no one knows where the hell the handle is and said someone could have picked it up or their dealer could have taken it. Now i was about to get livid, but they took my info again and said they would order us a new one. About 30 mins later on our way home they said they found it...so back to the store we went.

We got home, put the handle on, and set it on the stove...warped. We took it off and set it on a flat surface and sure enough its rocking around like a banana. Since there was no way in hell we could have used it we sent an email back to the dealer letting them know. Never got a reply for a week.

In this week i also sent an email directly to Travis due to member suggestions on this site, and never got a call or email response from them either.

At wits end we got in touch with their sister store, told them everything that happened so far, and they were helpful and saying it shouldn't take so long. For whatever reason they contacted the original store and that store then sent me a nasty message saying not to go through another store because they could start a second claim.

I replied an politely went off on him bitching about how long this whole process is taking, how he kept loosing my emails, how he didn't reply to my last one to even say he got my message or tell me he started a second claim. How was i supposed to know they were doing anything? As far as i could tell they were ignoring me.

He mentioned they make the lids to order (this seems really stupid, why would they not have some ready to go?) but they still have my old top with the crack and i could pick that up. Due to the coming cold weather, i reluctantly got it because at least it was flat and sealing. The other day it was dark in the room, and as I was loading it, i noticed i could now see the fire in the stove through the crack. So it finally got bad enough to go all the way through. While it is such a hairline crack, i'm sure its leaking now. I sent him an email right away and have yet to hear back from him(if you are wondering why its always email and there's no phone calls its because they never answer, and when they do they say they will call me back and never do).

I really have no idea what else to do, as Travis wont get back to me, my dealer is a pain to deal with, and the other dealer just contacts the old dealer and doesn't help me either. Im about to just order a piece of plate steel and cut the lid out with a plasma cutter and just throw that on top. Seems the only way im getting a lit this winter is if i make one.

Bummer. While waiting, drill a small .1" hole at the end of the crack to stop it from spreading. Then force some furnace cement into the crack with your finger. That should help buy you a bit more time.

ill give that a shot. Kinda nervous to drill the hole, i can just see the whole damn thing shatter knowing my luck haha. Is it safe to do when it is hot?

Didn't know lids still exist! Since the late eighties it was all nickels and dimes and up.

It probably wouldn't make a difference, but I feel better handling a cold piece of metal. I'd wait until it cools. The only difference I can see it making is a hole drilled when it is hot should contract to a lightly smaller hole later... and that shouldn't make a difference.

Well my dealer finally got back to me with a tracking number and a new lid will be in Monday. Hopefully this one will be flat.

My dealer sold me a floor model Leyden with a warped lid, despite paying for a new one, and then he promptly went out of business. I want a new lid so I can sell this thing. Travis told me it was between me and the dealer and they couldn't help. Did they charge you for the lid?

I suspect most won't get this.. but it's a good one.
I got a good chuckle out of it as soon as I saw it.;) I guess a lid was, well, just a lid.

Well I finally got my second new lid in and while it still has a small noticeable warp to it, it seals so I'm done dealing with them.

Still upset that I get two warped lids in a row. Seems Lopi's QC has gone down the shitter. Kinda wishing I got something else now. But it works again, so I can't be too upset I suppose.
