Have wood floors, stove is only 400 lbs and know I have a lot of options to move it, dolly, roll on pipe etc but the floors are nice and smooth and was thinking of laying it on a nice piece of carpet I have and sliding it -- should work I would imagine, right? Saves screwing with the dolly and moving the pipes.

Just me, no help.

I did that with an insert i bought in my last house, the thing weighed a ton. It worked good except i did end up with a few grooves in the floor from the sheer weight of it thru the carpet. And that was true hardwood floor, not laminate. Just use a thick carpet, go slow and be careful with what you're doing and you should be good.

it's very flat surface on both the floor and the stove, so should be ok -- just wanted to hear from someone who's done it.
If the stove has legs instead of a pedestal I would set it on something like 1x4's on top of the carpet to spread the weight out. If the stove is heavy enough it could still scuff the finish on the floor.

Take the bricks out also....

I would put the carpet upside down with the fluffy material against the floor instead of the hard jute. Good Luck and check early in the process to make sure you aren't having any unwanted surprises occurring under the carpet.

I have used PVC pipes and works great. You won't even have to lay the insert on its back. Rolls too easy. That way you just roll up to the opening.

Here's what I did.
