Does this make the wood split more easily?

I didn't see that in my Fiskars owner's manual. Come to think of it, I didn't get an owner's manual!
 
Nothing revolutionary about that at all. Splitting soft maple is as easy as it shows. One does not need the Fiskars to do it either as any old axe will do the task just as easy.
 
That wood reminds me of bass wood without the bark. ;lol

I do the same thing...to clean the dirt from around the razor sharp edge...just a habit...
