Hi Guys,

Once the ground thaws here in Alberta my ICF house is going up. I'm wrapping up final details in preparation for this project and would like a referra/recommendation for a company that will help me come up with the following-

-heat use/loss analysis on my home plans
-design my hydronic system with a list of parts etc to integrate wood boiler (of course! I've got a 250 and 500 gallon propane tank already) with electric boiler backup
-hot tub heated from storage
-HRV design and a parts list

Doesn't really matter where they are as I can e-mail the house plans and I would like someone with experience with wood gasification and ICF.

Thanks for your advice on here, always very helpful! Paul

Oh yah, I tried to use the local plumbing/heating guy and he told me wood boilers smoke like crazy and you will be a slave to feeding it. I tried to explain gasification with storage and he looked at me like I was crazy! I need someone who knows what they are doing in this field.

ICF home with good windows installed correctly and insulation in the ceiling installed by someone who takes pride in workmanship should not need a gasifier. It would take a lifetime to pay it back. A good propane boiler and radiant floors backed up by a masonry stove will keep you cozy without all that hardware in the basement. If you have wood on your property, process a couple cord a year and sell it.

Be sure to build high and dry and backfill with well draining porous material to keep as much moisture away as possible.

I used these guys http://nrtradiant.com/ and do not have one bad thing to say about them. I believe they saved me money and got it right the first time. They provided me with fantastic drawings and phone support that allowed this "nail bender" to do the complete istallation myself.

Hey Fred,
I do agree a gasifier is over kill but I think if I heat my hot tub (outdoor) and my domestic hot water it will help on the payback. My local gas natural gas company wants 4-6 grand just to for me to hook up to their line which is literally 10 feet from my house. I also looked at propane but I think propane is one of the more expensive ways to heat and that doesn't take into consideration future pricing. I currently heat with a Blaze King stove and around here we have so much wood around can buy a cord for 100$. I'm happy to process my own but I sure won't be selling it at that price!

711mhw, Thanks for the referral, I have seen reference to this company in other threads but couldn't find them on Google. Exactly what I'm looking for and I will be in touch with them after the Holidays,

Thanks guys, Paul
