What do you guys use for lube on the beam the wedge rides on? I have been using waste oil as I have plenty of it. I tried using grease and it didn't seem to work any better

I got a free 5 gallon bucket of "nothing" when I bought my splitter. I use it sparingly. A little goes a long way!
Hmmm, ok I thought they needed lubed. My buddy that let me borrow his before I bought mine told me to do that on his splitter so I just assumed... Thanks for the replies guys, Merry Xmas!

I occasionally dribble a bit of oil along the beam, but truth be told I doubt the slow back and forth motion is putting a whole lot of wear and tear and requires much lubrication . . . it's not like it's an engine piston rapidly slapping back and forth with tight clearances.

Grease and oil can trap dirt leading to increased wear. A dry type of lube would be best.

I do not own a splitter, nor have I ever used one, so I have no input whatsoever on this question. I hope this helps.

Yes, pg 16 of the manual, mine states to use motor oil to lube both sides of the beam before each use where it comes in contact with the wedge. I guess my initial concern was if there was something better to use than WMO, I'm not using new motor oil as long as I have the used stuff available Thanks for the replies

Good idea Fred, I have a can of graphite spray in the garage. I'll try that next time I split
With all the time spent here and other places, I have yet to see a post of "I wore through my splitter beam". If it was a problem, it would have surfaced by now.
