us stove 2000 insulation board?

I have a question about the insulation board above the secondary air. Does it slide to the front or the rear of the stove? it can move about 4"
 
I'm no expert on this stove, but in general, the baffle boards should be pushed all the way to the rear. This way, the exhaust gasses get to flow all the way over the top plate before exiting the stove, in hopes of extracting more heat for you.

I have this very stove. My baffle board is tight ,very tight ,it does not move at all. But it is all the way to the back of the stove so the flue gas exits along the front of it. There is zero space opened at the back. If your baffle is movable push it all the way to the back.
 
I have the same question for the us stove 2000. I watched the video on usstove.com and it said to push it to the front and showed them doing so but that makes no sense to me because like Pen said, The gases should have to travel further to get to the flue. giving the gasses time to heat up and start secondary burn. If it is pushed to the front then the gasses would just go strait up the flue. i slide mine to the back even though the us stove video showed them moving to the front. If anybody knows for sure please let me know.

Yup they are telling you to slide it to the front after installation. THis must be a mistake. IF you do(slide it front) all the flue gasses will go straight up the flue with no secondary burn. IN my 2000 stove the board is very tight,all the way to the BACK. I get great secondaries very quickly into the burn and all flue gas exits to the front of the stove exactly the way it does in my englander 30.
 
perhaps there is a front ledge or angle that it sits in? From the video it look like the placement is straight-forward. The baffle when in correctly sits on ledges including a back ledge. In position the baffle creates a sealed surface over the secondary tubes from front to back.
 
Mine is really tight right from the factory. Its tight against the back and sides,and it does not move at least when the stove is cold Its nice that i dont have to fiddle around with spacers and what not like in the 30.

Ill take a good look at it later today. The stove is in an apartment about 2 Blocks from where i live and not in use right now.
 
i can slide my board front to back with ease, when i slide it to the front of the stove i have at least a 2 inch gap from the back of the stove to the board.
