Good Evening...

This is my first season burning with my P68. I guess that it would make sense that I would use more pellets, given that it's a much larger stove than my Accentra insert. That said, I've only operated my P68 in stove temp mode. My question is this...Will more pellets be consumed in that mode vs room temp? Is it a significant difference? I understand that in room temp that I select a temperature and leave it there. Once up to temperature (which really never happened with my Accentra because it was very undersized for the space I had it in), I understand that the stove cycles down, which will obviously use less pellets. Is there a way to operate in room temp mode, have the stove cycle down, without killing the flame and needing to re-ignite every time or is that simply what you have to deal with in room temp mode? I suspect the answer is no, but just trying to find the right balance between heat and fuel consumption. Harman doesn't really seem to address pellet consumption in the various modes from the material that I've read. Any and all feedback is welcomed and appreciated.

John

Room temp manual will do just that. That how I run my 61.

I'll second Hoot23's comment. I run mine in Room temp mode and the switch set to manual to keep the stove idling when the temp is lowered at night.

You are going to use the same amount of pellets to maintain a certain temperature no.matter what the mode. The only way to conserve pellets is to have cooler house.

I keep mind in room temp mode and my ignitor switch in manual mode. In manual mode, the fire never goes out, so I don't see the need to switch back and forth between stove and room temp mode. In terms of pellet consumption, there is a higher variance of pellet consumption in room temp mode when compared to stove temp mode. Stove temp mode burns pellets at a steady rate regardless of temperature while room temp mode will adjust pellet consumption to meet heat demand. All of this should be explained in your manual.

As others have said, room temp mode with igniter switch on manual will do this. It keeps a small flame going (like a pilot on an old furnace). It also keeps the stove itself warm so the whole thing doesn't have to reheat, and it has the benefit of radiating a little heat into the room while doing this. We use it on colder days where we know the stove would be cycling on and off more frequently. When there's a call for heat, it just starts feeding again and ramps up. There's a great explanation of the different modes here...

I don't use my stove in stove mode so I have no pellet use comparison for that. I can compare room temp auto vs room temp manual though, and manual uses slightly more pellets for me. Not enough to keep me from using it though.

Room Temp Manual here as well but only during the "heart" of the season. In the shoulder season its room temp auto so on a mild day the stove can shut down on its own. I don't use stove temp mode at all.
