OK, so, predatory on other insects... good start there...
Trying to figure why I'm only finding them on the hickory splits, not the cherry or BL.

I was afraid they were eating my wood!
 
I think the grub of that beetle is that big white milky one you see in compost or rotting wood.
Good eating though.
 
Given this and your other thread, time to call Otto the Orkin Man Blue.
 
Nah... neither one eats wood. As long as they don't eat cats I'm 007.

I live in Eastern VA and we have them all over the woods here. When I find dead downed trees that have been down for a long time these guys are all over the place.
