As brushless controllers and motors evolve all of our appliances and toys that use motors are going to have a lot of options.

I fly radio controlled model airplanes and the introduction of brushless motors and controllers has revolutionized the hobby. I just converted one of my planes to electric and it's amazing. The motor is 950 watts or about 1 1/4 horsepower! It's a 3 phase motor about the diameter of a can of tomato paste. Just amazing!

Come to think of it, my one heat pump's room fan is DC and variable.

More and more high efficiency washers are going to brushless motors and I know of one and I think some a/c units and heat pumps will be using brushless motors in the compressors and I know mine already has one on the outdoor fan and the indoor blower. Sorry to carry this off topic it just seems to me with all the electronics with power supplies and wall warts converting to dc and more and more dc motors I wonder if some day we will have ac/dc systems. OK back to regularly scheduled programming.
