Hey, Gear People!

This is a cool device made by a dedicated inventor who has spent five years and untold $$$ getting it patented, built and to market. I usually don't allow direct ads here, but this is neat new product and I hope folks in the logging industry and serious firewood cutters will consider it...and spread the word!

Any chance we can get one of these " donated " so that one of our experts could try it out. ( ie guys that buy log lenth or fall big trees. Id be interested in its accuracy and consistincy of length. If its good Id buy one in a second.

I dont have anything left to try it on. Im done for the year. I was thinking one of the big boys might try it out. Anyone else interested? If its accurate sounds like a good tool to me.

neat little product , i'll show it around in the office see if it raises an eyebrow, kudo's to dan for following through with a great idea, may just have to get one of them , need a 20 inch wheel for my stove though

I could give it a run on 18" wood. What I have always used to measure is becoming a problem as the area becomes more populated around here.

That is a very good posibility, Thanks

I wonder if I'm the only one that picked up on this.

Corie, this is what concerns me. You are the only one.

Whats up man?

Thomas

I have worked very hard to produce a quality for my fellow AMERICANS and I have done this all on my own. Being a farmer and logger that knows where a dollar comes from I am in no way affiliated with Creig other than I am advertising with him and realy appreciate the chance and the hard work he has done. We need more kindness in this world.

I have been trying to figure out a way to cut 18'' rounds out of the logs that I cut since my new stove will work best with around an 18'' round or split.

I really like working with something I always will have with me and can't forget so I did the most basic thing I could think of which works out great. I simply took a tape measure from the tip of my bar and made a mark on my saw at exactly 18''. This way, before I cut, I quickly hold the saw parralel to the log and spot a mark on the log (bump, branch. knot, anything) that is approx at my 18'' mark.

The entire process literally takes just one or two seconds and is very accurate. No tools to forget, works 100% every time.

NOTE: if you are not using a long enough bar, thats okay, simply make a mark at 18'' [or wherever] from the bar tip to the point on your saw you want.

Ben, congrats and best of luck with the new company. I've been using my bar to mark length, but i always manage to screw it up, by taking my eye off the mark before i cut. i'm done cutting for the year but will look into this in the winter. accurate measurements is important since I want to stack front to back and 14" length is the max.

How'd you select the name?

Send me a Mingo and I'll give it a run. I've done a couple write ups on retail gear here. I actually have an old thread here where I asked for advice on how to measure like this tool can measure.

Thanks for asking. Our first born son ( Shane Michiel H----) was 2 when we had our second son named Jeremy. You know what childern come up with, any way Shane could not say Jeremy so he came up with Mingo and it has stuck to this day. Shane was a hooker under a logging helecopter and we lost him April 22 of 2002. I named my corp after my dear son, SMH Inc and my product is named after our only son so my wife of 37 years and i have both of our boys with us, Boy oh boy, love your childern because life can be so short. It is a neat product, though I'll admit it doesn't really give me the "I WANT IT's" %-P What I find is that I get logs in slightly different lengths, so my gripe is that I always seem to end up with that little short chunk log at the end... I'd like to find a tape and marking technology that would let me mark the log at a length that divides evenly into the log without the remainder, but still stays within my general spec for log length (16-19")

I can see how to do a tape that would work, but a spray marker that wouldn't mess up the tape next to it is a bit more of a challenge...

Hi guys,

Interesting product.

One thing that popped in my mind was that there is no 20 inch marker possibility. I know, you might think I am just wining, but Craig said that this was for Pros and serious firewood cutters. Many of these serious firewood cutters and burners, have serious and often large wood stoves which can take 20 or even 22 inch logs. But this machine is not able to provide those markings.

E.g. I burn about 5 full cords a year. I would hate to have to cut all logs to 16 inch. I am glad my Isle Royale takes 20 inch splits.

Just my comments.

Ben, congrats on your product coming to light. Hope everything works as planned

Oh, and BroBart, Congrats to you too.

THE MINGO is designed to accept a 20 inch marking wheel. We will eventually build the 20 inch marking wheel that will also mark 10 inches. We have kept track of the requests and only have 19 of the thousands we have sold. The mold is about $35,000.00 and when waranted it will be produced. Thanks, Benny
