Feeling the Heat
Feb 6, 2012

Southern MD
Woke up today and I have 5.2 degrees outside. Not real cold for some of you guys but for southern Maryland it doesnt get much colder. Damn heat pump kicked on last night as well! Just cranked the stove up. Need to get that heat pump off! How is everyone else doing?

gotta leave for work in 30 minutes.... not looking forward to the 15 minute walk to the train.

my parents on the other hand are really enjoying the pellet stove heat.

setting 4 on their pellet stove keeps their house at 75 degrees!!!!

Just west of Philly. Right at 0'F on my weather station today, with some local stations reporting as low as -2. Heat pump just kicked on but only had one stove on last night. Other now blazing away and should take care of things by about 8:30 or so.

Well i no what i will be doing later today.

-7.1 with wind chills 25-30 below zero here in NE PA and my BigE is keeping my garage at 59 on setting 2 only.

Car showed 6 when I left for work this morning. Made the mistake of setting the heat back last night to 64 from 70 (I like it a bit cooler when I sleep). With strong winds it is going to take a while to bring the house back up to 70.

-10 here in Ohio wind chills are nuts.
Question ~ the smoke from the chimney on my Harman P68 is white. I have never seen this before, is it from the extreme cold?

That would be steam/condensation from the cold just like what comes out of your mouth.

It's -13 here and I'm seeing the same thing. Freaked me out at first, but it's been doing that for hours and the stove is burning fine. I'm blaming it on the cold.

-5.5 at my place in Asheville, NC.

Stove set on 4...temp. inside at 69. Eco 65 is going to eat a lot of pellets today.

Normal. It's your own personal jet contrail.

Thanks for the reply, was a bit worried, I really need this heat today. Stove is keeping this old house nice and warm. :)

-10.4 in Missouri. Wind chill -20. It's been sub zero for 3 days now (along with a foot of snow). P38 has been keeping the downstairs toasty which greatly assists the upstairs heating. Supposed to hit 21 today. I think I will go plant my garden.

Yesterdays high was -17F with some winds hitting 30 mph. Hooked up the Bixby as the Elena is running low on horse bedding, filled up with corn and got the house back to comfortable. The Harman was not giving enough air circulation to get the job done. Three days going on four days of double digits below zero with wind is taking its toll. Another day of no school for the state.

The Afton bay is cranking its little heart out on setting 4

-18 with a -40 wind chill this morning.

Yesterday I ran the furnace for half hour twice to help out.

I am dreading tomorrow when I go back to work. We Will run out of pellets before I get home from work

8 out, 73 in.

-11 at 4:30 when wife had to leave for work I got up t make sure she could get off to work and checked the temp though out the house the furnace had to help all night my 5502 is all the way up. I just turned the feed rate all the way up. to see if I can shut the furnace off. can't what to get back to the 30.

Water vapor, just make sure there's no hint of black in it. That would mean it's dirty and needs a cleaning.

Somehow Maine missed this cold.. Although we had single digits this morning and below 0 this past weekend thats pretty much the norm.

Three degrees outside with a windchill of negative thirteen. Seventy-five in the family room and seventy throughout the rest of the house as the Bosca churns away. To make things even sweeter, I just saw the oil delivery guy freezing his butt off and it's nice to know I am not contributing to his misery today (or any other day for that matter)! >>

It's 24 degrees here with a chance of snow tonight. We had our turn with the sub-zero temps last month.

Most major highways closed in our area due to the blizzard conditions. Hopefully we will be out of this tomorrow! The stove is keeping up with the severe cold and wind chill. Power failure could be a possibility as the snow load is bearing down on the pine trees which in turn is bearing down on hydro wires. I guess tomorrow we will have to trim some trees. P.S. Nice pic of the cat! Looks like you'd have one unhappy kitty if you touched that stove!
