So I have a 16 insulated SS liner connected to my stove with the last 2 feet not insulated with a top plate. I had to remove the damper plate to install the liner. The problem that Im having is that in the morning the room that the stove is in is cooler. Plus Im concerned that in the summer my AC Air will go up the flue as well....Would it be best to just stuff the smoke box with Roxul and not bother with putting a piece os sheet metal their or can I do shhet metal alone? And will the Roxul be okay touching the flue?

(I think it will be just wanting advice from guys who have done it)

Roxul will be fine touching the flue.

At the end of the season, close the door and turn the air down to low.

I have done the Roxul thing - put it in front of the block off plate for extra sealing - just stuffed clumps of it up there. It has not dropped down - kind of just wedged in the cavity tight..

Put the Roxul in and reinstall the block off plate. As mentioned, seal it, seal it good. Rope gasket works well around the liner. That is what I used thanks to the wisdom of Brother Bart.

The roxul is what is going to hold the heat back.

Not having a perfect seal where the liner passes through it is not a big deal.
