The next time you're wondering what to do with that plain jane fireplace, visit this site.

Here are some examples of the artists' works.

Built by partners Naomi Zettl & Andreas Kunert. They have a book out on the art of stone listed on their website.

every one of them is awesome...

I see the talent and work but am I the only one that doesn't really like them?

Maybe jUST not my style, (or lack of) the first one is best

They would be inappropriate in a small living room like ours but in the right house I can appreciate their beauty. I really like their large civic projects outdoors better. There the scale is more appropriate.

That is awesome. Not sure I would have the patience to finish it. Thanks for posting the photos & links.

I've actually been spending some time reading about masonry fireplaces and am going to do more research before posting. They would fit my home much better than the present wood stove. An architecture centerpiece is exactly what I am looking for. Just need the time & money. The work shown contains a lot of beach or river stone which is something pretty easy to find on Vancouver Island but not so easy in S. Ont. I do have the luxury of having a lot of weathered rocks on my property. They work great in my koi pond area but just need to think how they can work into an indoor fireplace design. Similar to photo attached. Ideas?

Very cool I just wonder if it would get old looking at it every day
Somehow, I'd rather look at that than a black stove pipe. 14' of stove pipe (in my case) would be downright bothersome. Gotta admit, you would not want to do this if your wife like remodelling all the time.

I doubt it. The stones would look different as the light changes throughout the day and night and year.
