Hello, got my new wood stove today. Never had a new one before. Do I need to fire the unit outside first? Worried about fumes coming from the stove. Thoughts?

Matt

I brought my stove from store to house then right inside. I cured the paint inside. I'm the inpatient type haha I didn't really smell anything but my wife's nose picked it up quick.....long story short if you don't have a wife/gf with good nose who will nag u then let her rip inside and if you have too open a window, windows, door. All depends on the nose

Hmm. No pics? Must not have happened.:p
Need? Don't need to, but if you can, yes, do it outside with a section or 2 of stove pipe stuck in the collar.
You might still get some curing smell once installed.
Open a window.
It will likely take a few decent firings to cure fully.
Which stove did you get?

Vogelzang Ponderosa. It's a beast. I gave up on my old Federal Airthight. Sold it for $175.

I fired it up and it smelled alright. Set off my smoke detector. Opened a window and put a small fan in it.

Thx!

Matt

The stove paint will start baking in when it gets above 450-500F. Open a nearby window or two and maybe point a fan out one of them. This will only be for the first 1-2 fires with the stove over 500F. Each time it will get better.

Welcome. I burned mine off inside and go the alarms going a couple times. Dog didn't like it but beyond that and a couple brain cells I likely don't need no harm/no foul.

Get it cranking and enjoy the heat!

As long as you can open some windows it's not bad. They say the fumes aren't harmful but it does stink.

Yea-------Farts aren't harmful either, but get enough of them in a small room and you'll die.
