MY INSERT ARRIVED TODAY !!!

Well I had to go to FedEx and pick it up. It's a PE Summit Insert. Somewhere online, I read these things weigh 450 pounds. The bill of laiding said 390. I was worried about getting it out of the pick up truck, but it was a non event. I was on one end of the pallet and my brother and a friend were on the other. None of us are particularly big guys either.

Some people on here were asking about this guy on Ebay. Justin from Hereford, TX. I have no complaints at all. He was nice and did what he promised. It even came in a day early.

Now to let you guys tell me how I did. The stove liner was $349.00. It's 25 feet of stainless steel flex made by Magnaflex. It came with a cap, a chimeny cover thingy, and the oval to round connector, since the bottom portion of the flex is ovalized. Is Mangnaflex a good liner The stove was $2045 with the gold door. Shipping was free.

As for the stove. Well, this is my first insert but this thing is huge. So far it looks great attached is a picture. I did have one problem with it. I wanted to see what the fan would do so I plugged it in and nothing. I looked closer and one of the wires had come out of the wire nut. It's a crimp on wire nut and I dont have any that small to I'll have to guy one. I did shove the wire into the nut and turned it on. It's kinda loud on high, but I'm hoping it will quiet down once its installed and covered. I had to take the side cover off the stove to get at the wiring and I turned it on with that off as well, so I'm sure its alot louder than normal right now.

Oh and my buddy who helped me pick it up, used to heat with wood and coal when he was a kid. He looked at my house and said it's a pretty open floor plan and that I shouldn't have much trouble heating it. At least not the kitchen, family room, living, and hallway by his estimate.

I noticed that. It doesn't look like the stove's been touched up. I'm guessing if they used an hvlp gun they could have sprayed the whole thing on the pallet. Wouldn't be a bad way to build things.

Here are two pics with the door open. I am concerned about the fire brick. Two pieces are tapered and they need to be. Also, The two smaller pieces that go in the back are smaller than they need to be and leave a gap. See the yellow arrows on the picture. Will this be a problem? Should I get a couple of pieces of brick and fix this?

Here is another pic with the side cover off when I had to reconnect the fan wire. It's interesting that this is the right side of the insert. The left side is completely empty. The knock out on the left side of the insert for the room air is on this side. The air intake for the stove is on the bottom in the back of the stove. If you knck out the four inch circle on the left, then air is drawn in through the left front side of the stove then exits the left side of the stove through the hole and flows around the stove to the intake on the bottom of it.

This really got me thinking. I am going to use outside air, so the left side of my stove will do nothing. Why not put a fan on that side too? Then change the baffels on the top of the stove to redirect air from both sides. The baffels are really simple, just a few pieces of sheet metal screwed to the outside cover of the insert on the top of it. Also, the way the fan is postioned it really only blows air across the front 2/3 of the top of the stove. The Pacific D-1 insert has the same fan, 160 CFM and it's firebox is only 2/3 the size of the summit. I'm not going to chane anything on this stove this year. I'm new to burning and don't want to create any headaches for myself, but you can bet I'm going to blow some air in to the left side of the stove atleast once to see how much of a difference it makes. I have few old PC fans that I could hold up against it for a minute or two. If it makes a huge difference I might buy another summit fan and put it on the left side of the unit. I can make the necessary sheet metal easily. What do you guys think? In judging the airflow on it now, my 8,000 btu window air condtioner moves more air. How much is a replacement fan for these things?

Ever had apple pie moonshine? I don't know how they make the mash but it tastes just like apple pie. The problem is you only can drink about half of cup of the stuff. It's got to be atleast 150 proof. It burns like Bacardis 151.
